POW/MIA Databases & Documents (Federal Research Division: Customized Research and Analytical Services, Library of Congress) In December 1991, Congress enacted Public Law 102-190, commonly referred to as the McCain Bill. The statute requires the Secretary of Defense to make available to the public--in a "library like setting"--all information relating to the treatment, location, and/or condition (T-L-C) of United States personnel who are unaccounted-for from the Vietnam War. The facility chosen to receive this information was the Library of Congress (LoC). The Federal Research Division (FRD) created the PWMIA Database, the online index to those documents. The microfilmed documents themselves are available at the Library of Congress or borrowed through local libraries. In March 1992, the U.S. – Russia Joint Commission on POWs and MIAs (USRJC) was established by direction of the Presidents of the United States and the Russian Federation to serve as a forum through which both nations seek to determine the fate of their missing servicemen.

UNdata State Agency Databases - GODORT In every US State and the District of Columbia, agencies are creating databases of useful information - information on businesses, licensed professionals, plots of land, even dates of fish stocking. Some of this content is available on search engines, but much of it is part of the invisible web. Since July 2007, librarians and other government information specialists have been working on identifying and annotating these databases in one place. We've chased across fifty state web sites so you don't have to! ALA RUSA named this site one of its Best Free Reference Web Sites of 2012!! Information here changes from time to time. If you have questions about this project, please contact: Daniel Cornwall, SADATFS Project Coordinator State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States SADATFS Volunteer Guide for prospective and current volunteers. HeadlineSpot.com: US Newspapers Online News Headlines, World News, Current Events. !!Polysearch - Biographies These are edited, collective, searchable and substantial biography collections in the genres needed the most often by most users. I know that there are many others which don't meet the above criteria but are useful. I'll consider them for another group. Soon I will post an Encyclopedia PolySearch Engine which will offer -as a bonus- many biographical articles. Use the last name alone for fairly unique names (Updike, Kahanamoku). Use the first name and last name for people with common last name (Adam Smith). Select no more collections than 4 (vertical tiles) or 6 (horizontal tiles) at the same time. choosing collections, so don't choose White House, when searching for, say, the Indigo Girls. Don't use truncation, Boolean and other operators on this template. Thanks to Daniel Nishimura for help in customizing the original script which was designed for metasearching Web-wide search engines.
