The Hitchhiker: Reading Comprehension As Andrea turned off the motorway onto the road to Brockbourne, the small village in which she lived, it was four o'clock in the afternoon, but already the sun was falling behind the hills. At this time in December, it would be completely dark by five o'clock. Andrea shivered. MDH 1994 -- From a common urban legend Realia Here are a few suggestions for activities using realia and to consider why we may want to bring things into the class. Why use realia in class? The main advantage of using real objects in the classroom is to make the learning experience more memorable for the learner. To give a couple of simple examples, if you are going to teach vocabulary of fruit and vegetables it can be much more affective for students if they can touch, smell and see the objects at the same time as hearing the new word. A second example would be if you are going to teach some functional language for asking for the timetable for a train. Here is a selection of activities involving realia. Tourist information Gather some city/town maps from the tourist information bureau wherever you are. Christmas in Great Britain: Christmas Around the World at Santa's Net. Christmas in Great Britain In Great Britain the hustle and bustle of the season begins well before Christmas and there is barely anytime for a break until the Twelfth night. There is preparation going on of foods, the sending of Christmas cards, the decorating of houses and churches, and the readying of gifts keep everyone busy even the youngest family members. On Christmas Eve youngsters hang up their stockings on the ends of the beds or by the chimney so that when Father Christmas comes he can leave them something. On Christmas morning the family traditionally opens their presents and prepares for a big feast which typically is served just after midday. In the afternoon they exchange visits with neighbors other family members. Some churches in Great Britain have a Christingle service on the fourth Sunday of Advent. In Britain, children write their letters to Father Christmas and then throw them into the fireplace so they will float up the chimney and fly to the North Pole.

3. 4. 5. Tankar efter lektionen / Sara
