Vorspeisen auf iOS-Design-Guide As someone who does work on both the development and design side of iOS apps I find that many designers struggle with the transition to UI work, or with the different processes involved in iPhone and iPad app design. In this guide I'll describe the deliverables you'll be expected to produce, outline the constraints of the medium and introduce fundamental iOS and UI design concepts. The Medium Knowing your medium and its quirks is an important part of being a good designer. I'm sure you've been witness to large print-outs with horrible pixelation artefacts - the result of misunderstanding print media. Similarly misunderstanding the role of pixels on screen can result in blurry, squished, or pixellated designs.

Why Pierre Omidyar decided to join forces with Glenn Greenwald for a new venture in news Oct.16 Here’s the story he told me: # In the spring of this year, Pierre Omidyar was one of the people approached by the Washington Post Company about buying the Post. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, wound up with the prize. But as a result of exploring that transaction, Omidyar started thinking seriously about investing in a news property.

Apostrophe Copywriters Meet the family. Words work in so many ways - in magazines and brochures, on billboards, in scripts, and even on websites and social media. So it’s a good thing we have writers who specialise in each. What the heck is an interest graph? Pearltrees raises $6.6M to show us Social curation startup Pearltrees has just sealed a deal for €5 million (around $6.6 million), all in the name of creating a better interest graph. Much is being made in current social media circles of the “interest graph” concept, which is more about what you know than who you know, and which purportedly has strong connections to purchase intent and other matters of concern to online marketers. Put differently, while social networks like Facebook focus on what you have in common with your friends and how you react to friends’ recommendations, interest graph-based models (like the ones behind Pinterest, GetGlue or Foodspotting) make social connections based on shared interests, not the other way around. “Pearltrees has leveraged social curation to create an open and collaborative interest graph of the Web,” said Pearltrees CEO Patrice Lamothe in a release. “As a consequence, Pearltrees harnesses the power of people to organize and discover the most valuable content on the web”, he said.

Any project, Any size Three Emerging Behaviors That Are Reshaping Branding A new report from Wolff Olins outlines the three key consumer behaviors that are shaping the marketplace today. Image: Wolff Olins Today’s consumers are more informed–and more skeptical–than ever before. With technology, in many ways, the power has shifted from brands to buyers–the winds of social media can galvanize the public for or against a brand with astonishing speed, and people now vote with their dollars by supporting companies they believe in. This isn’t exactly news. But it doesn’t mean businesses have to just do their thing and hope for the best.

Sidr - A jQuery plugin for creating side menus You will be able to create multiple sidrs on both sides of your web to make responsives menus (or not, it works perfectly on desktop too). It uses CSS3 transitions (and fallbacks to $.animate with older browsers) and it supports multiple source types. Get started Like any other plugin, you must include it after the jQuery script. For a better performance load them at the bottom of your page or in an asynchronous way.

Livefyre Acquires Storify, Says The Social Curation Service Will Still Operate As Standalone Product Livefyre, a commenting platform used by TechCrunch and other websites, is announcing that it has acquired social curation startup Storify. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Livefyre says the five-person Storify team will be joining the company, bringing its headcount to 91. Livefyre founder and CEO Jordan Kretchmer also told me via email that Storify, which allows users to bring social media comments together into a single conversation, will continue to operate as a standalone service. “Not only will we be keeping the great Storify product and brand completely intact, we will be investing in both moving forward,” Kretchmer said. “That means that there will always be a free version of Storify as we work to continue to grow the Storify community, just as there has always been a free version of Livefyre.” Livefyre raised a $15 million round in February, bringing its total funding to more than $20 million.

The Story Congratulations! Nothing enhances your entertainment experience like a huge flat-panel TV. And while the size was definitely a selling point, it's also a dangerous one. The average 32" flat-panel TV weighs as much as three bowling balls! A heavy fact you learn when you drop it on your toe.

Top Drawer - A smooth dropdown menu for responsive web design Tap the menu icon in the top right. The click event will assign the class of active to the drawer container which alters the translate value to bring it into view. Modernizr will detect whether the user's device is capable of CSS transforms, if it isn't we simply show and hide the menu after the button is pressed - no point in animating if it isn't going to work smoothly.
