Halftone Mania When I was thumbing through some magazines the other day, I noticed a number of ads using halftone effects. Photoshop provides a few different ways to show a halftone effect. This tutorial will walk you through them. The first one is the Halftone Pattern filter. The Halftone Pattern Filter works with the two colors you have chosen as your foreground/background. Duplicate the layer [Ctrl + J]. Size: 2 Contrast: 5 Pattern Type: dot Prett exciting, huh? The next one is the Color Halftone filter. Now go to [Filter > Pixelate > Color Halftone]. The third way is a little more of the effect I see in magazines. In your new document, go to [Image > Mode > Grayscale]. Now run a big Gaussian Blur [Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur] of around 30 or 40. Go to [Image > Mode > Bitmap]. In the next dialog box, set the Frequency to around 8 or 10 and the Shape to Round. You should now get an effect like this: Set the Image Mode back to Grayscale [Image > Mode > Grayscale].

Nikon 24 mm f/3.5 PC-E Nikkor ED An In-Use Report and Overview Part of Nikon's resurgence during the past year was the announcement in January '08 of three new Perspective Control lenses, a 24mm f/3.5, 45mm and 85mm. The 24mm was the first of the three to ship, (and arguable the most useful for the landscape photographer), and is the subject of this report. I write "report" because this isn't in any way a formal lens test. Rather, it is a look at what a tilt / shift lens is and does, and what it can do for photographers using today's DSLRs. Firstly, I should make the point that this lens is primarily usable with full frame (FX) and film cameras. For someone that has never shot with a large format technical camera a lens like the 24mm PC-E will be both enticing and intimidating. I've been using view cameras for decades. Sidebar: The Overview A lens like the Nikon 24 PC-E does two fundamental things that no other type of lens can do. – it allows you to change the plane of focus, from near to far to any other axis. Seamless pattern Tutorial Sorry please come back later for translation. Et un tuto Photoshop pour Laure qui se demande comment j'ai structure le motif de Tampopo d'hier! Backpacking With Photo Gear Photos © 2004, Timothy Edberg, All Rights Reserved "Geez, Tim, your photo gear alone is heavier than my entire backpack!" This was a fellow backpacker I met in Glacier National Park. She was exaggerating...I hope. So why do I take on the burden of a richly camera-laden pack when I go backpacking? I'll share with you my method of packing a full photo rig for maximum comfort and productivity. At the heart of my system for backpacking with a generous set of photo equipment--for that matter, of all of my shooting--is the use of a photo vest to carry my camera gear. It's impossible to wear the vest over the backpack while on the trail, of course.
