HYT H3 Watch & Video At Baselworld 2015, HYT (the hydromechanical horologists) will present their third major new release - the HYT H3. A few months ago, HYT presented the Skull watch (here), which, while being a new watch, was closely aligned with the original HYT H1 (hands-on here). Unique, weird, and controversial, the HYT Skull was merely a fun distraction from what would be the main attraction for 2015 - this new HYT H3 timepieces. madame hervé : behind the curtains 2013 was a good year, not superbe, but really ok. A Discussion of Rolex Movements Going Back to 1950 Rolex Daytona 6265 FAB Movement There’ve been at least 61 Rolex calibres manufactured since 1950. And they’ve been installed in many times that many references. In fact some have been installed in dozens of references. The 2235, for instance, was introduced in 1999 and has seen service in no less than 108 different Rolex references, all of them versions of the Oyster Perpetual, Datejust and Lady Yacht-Master midsize. (For the record, calibre means movement, and reference is the model number of the watch.)

Florijn Drie Watch Review I am always excited when I get to review watches that come from small, recently established brands – companies, more often than not, which are run by just one person or an extremely small group of people. The latest Dutch watch brand, Florijn, is a perfect example. Founded by Hans Heuvelman, their models hit the market very recently, following, what we are told, was 2 years of planning, design and prototyping. We are looking at the Florijn Drie here, one of the three slightly different models Florijn set off. Simply named as One, Two, and Three in Dutch, the three models differ only in their color scheme.

History of watchmaking - Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie History Patents were filed for a chronograph with two push-buttons (Breitling). The company Porte-Echappement Universel (Fritz Marti) invented the « Incabloc » shock absorption system that could be adapted to any calibre. How To Mod a Seiko 5 Watch The business of watch modding is not about creating parts, but replacing them. In other words, the watch was already completed and working before watch modder Nick Harris’s work started — just not to his specifications. By its very nature, modding relies on the modularity of lower-priced watches, usually Asian, especially the Japanese brand Seiko, which are affordable and equipped with hearty mechanical movements. Modders use preexisting watches, removing their dials, hands and bezels (and sometimes more) and replacing them with other parts to create new aesthetics atop the same base structure. The mod is based around the movement and the case, which are often the only constants in the exercise. To put it in auto terms, it’s the careful application of a custom body kit without altering the frame and drivetrain.

Tread: Expensive bags made from recycled bike truck tires - Boing Boing Gadgets The same people who make the Solio solar chargers have released a whole new line of bags, laptop sleeves, and gadget cases under the “Tread” brand. Each of the items is made from recycled inner tube tires from trucks. Most of the smaller bags look fairly typical, but the “Transient Attache” and the “Sleeve” are really nice looking. The inherent folds of the inner tubes make the material look like animal leather. Even though the material has been saved from the dump you won’t be getting second-hand prices: the Attache is $200, while the smaller cases are around $20-$30. I would be surprised if anyone reading this wasn't aware, at least visually, of their Ressence Type 1 and Type 3 models which, in living up to the brand's tag line, have evolved "beyond hands." Announced just ahead of Baselworld 2015, Ressence has reworked their Type 3 model to include a temperature gauge to monitor the oil that fills the upper case element. Much like the original Ressence Type 3, the new Type 3 is 44mm x 15mm in size with a three-part case that is essentially two sapphire domes mounted to a titanium spine. The spine also forms the lugs and can be had in matte or polished finish, each with a DLC coating.

How Will Apple Watch Teach People To Love Watches? The Apple Watch represents a totally new frontier for Apple, whose corporate personality evolves as they enter the "wearable" space when the Apple Watch goes on sale April 24, 2015. The company's first smartwatch (which they choose to not refer to as a smartwatch, just like they didn't call the iPhone a smartphone) is also one of the most unique and difficult to explain products that they have ever produced. It further represents a noteworthy irony, because Apple itself was a crucial factor in the diminishment of consumers wearing watches to begin with. Now, Apple wants people to rediscover not only wearing things on their wrists, but the value of the timepiece itself. Determine the Age of Your Rolex - A Word About Rolex Serial Numbers Because each new Rolex design is typically evolutionary rather than revolutionary, distinguishing a late model Rolex from an older watch can be difficult. Design differences are subtle. A Submariner purchased in 2000 is often virtually identical to the same reference purchased a few years later. For Rolex watches manufactured up to 2009, determining the approximate production date is easy.
