Happiness is the only true measure of personal success. Making other people happy is the highest expression of success, but it's almost impossible to make others happy if you're not happy yourself. With that in mind, here are nine small changes that you can make to your daily routine that, if you're like most people, will immediately increase the amount of happiness in your life: 1. If there's any big truth about life, it's that it usually lives up to (or down to) your expectations. 2. The most common source of stress is the perception that you've got too much work to do. 3. I'm not talking about a formal, wrapped-up present. 4. Arguments about politics and religion never have a "right" answer but they definitely get people all riled up over things they can't control. 5. Since you can't read minds, you don't really know the "why" behind the "what" that people do. 6. Sometimes we can't avoid scarfing something quick to keep us up and running. 7. 8. 9.

10 Ways To Be Happy, On Purpose “He who depends on himself will attain the greatest happiness” ~Chinese Proverb I was at a Women’s Leadership Conference about a year ago and had an “ah-ha moment”. We were all introducing ourselves and asked to share a few things to help with the process. At the time I honestly didn’t know. It’s not been an easy road, but it’s been the most fulfilling adventure I’ve ever been on and I feel that I should now share what I’ve learned with others. 1. “Today you are you, that is truer than true. How many times have we heard “no one will love you until you learn to love yourself” or “nobody knows you the way you do”? So get to know the right-now-real you, both the good and the bad, and own it. The good news is that if you don’t like certain aspects of yourself right now, you have it in your control to change that. 2. “Open your eyes and look within. The question we all got asked when we were little was “what do you want to be when you grow up?” “You have brains in your head. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

Make Your Own Detox Drink for Daily Enjoyment & Cleansing Whether you’re just trying to steer clear of the sugary drinks, or aim to really help your body flush out any toxins lurking in your system, this refreshing blend of foods and flavors will satisfy your tastebuds needs. Included: Watermelon/cucumber, lemon/lime, mint leaves, and water. Why Watermelon (or cucumber): Watermelon helps the body flush out toxins because it contains the organic compound citrulline, which is an amino acid that has been shown to help the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of ammonia. Ammonia comes in external forms, but is also a by-product of the proteins our bodies are burning up constantly for energy, and it’s quite damaging to our cells. Cucumber also contains citrulline, but not as much as watermelon. Watermelon may also just give the liver an overall boost. Why water: H20 is just plain good for us, but it’s thought that it helps flush nasty toxins and waste through our system, giving organs like the liver and kidney an easier time doing their job.

10 things science (and Buddhism) says will make you happy I’m a science geek as well as a Buddhist geek, and recently when I was leading a retreat on how to bring more joy into our lives I found myself making a lot of references to an article published in Yes magazine, which touched on ten things that have been shown by science to make us happier. It seemed natural to draw upon the article because so much of the research that was described resonated with Buddhist teachings. So I thought it would be interesting to take the main points of the article and flesh them out with a little Buddhism. 1. Be generous“Make altruism and giving part of your life, and be purposeful about it,” Yes magazine says. “Researcher Elizabeth Dunn found that those who spend money on others reported much greater happiness than those who spend it on themselves.” And in fact Buddhism has always emphasized the practice of dana, or giving. “And which are the three factors of the donor? 2. This of course is an example of another fundamental Buddhist practice — mindfulness. 3.

How can we look at our disappointments and hurts and still maintain a positive perspective on life? How do we increase our resiliency when we’re going through turbulent changes? The story of Kisa Gotami A Buddhist story, “The Mustard Seed,” shows that we don’t suffer independently or differently from others. “Bring me a handful of mustard seeds that were taken from a house where no death has occurred and no grief experienced,” the Buddha replies. Making a Habit of Thinking Happily I have written several articles on positive thinking and the law of attraction, and am always surprised by how many readers privately contact me with strong skepticism. “Do you really practice these techniques” and “do you really find that it works” I am asked. And although the answer is generally “yes” to these questions, I have made an even firmer commitment over the last several months to integrate positive self-talk in my life. The results: I am now an even firmer believer in the practice of positive thinking…and I am going to explain why. More than ever I have come to understand that positive thinking is a technique that actually becomes a way of life, and a way of being. However unreal this may sound to you, I can assure you it can be a very powerful and life-changing exercise to start yourself down the path of becoming a positive thinker. 7 Effective Ways To Implement Positive Thinking How to Break Out of Bad habits Using Affirmations Why The Law of Attraction Does Not work For You
