17 Offbeat Holidays and Anniversaries to Celebrate in December Halfway through last December, we gave you 11 unusual holidays to make the month even more festive. While we still highly endorse observing National Wear a Plunger on Your Head Day (December 18th) and National Cover Anything With Chocolate Day (December 16th), we found plenty of other reasons to keep your spirits bright all month. 1. December 1st: (A Proposed) Scrabble Day Much to the chagrin of the Scrabulous inventors and the annoyance of Words with Friends, this granddaddy of word games is copyrighted. 2. Getty Images SMS was born on this date in 1992. 3. December isn’t exactly lacking in opportunities to indulge in sweet treats, but today it’s your offbeat-holiday-given right to mix, bake, and/or eat as many cookies as your glycemic index can handle. 4. The official website of Ninja Day alleges this holiday not only honors all things stealth and nunchucks, but also combats the more nautical offbeat holiday, “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” which takes place in September. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
Teaching Generation Text! Using Cell Phones to Enhance Learning The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Review → December 3, 2012 Director Peter Jackson's fourth trip to Middle-earth can't quite recapture the greatness, emotional impact or charm of his Lord of the Rings trilogy, but there's nevertheless much to enjoy about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. A classic book known to millions worldwide, most of whom were introduced to it in childhood, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is appropriately lighter in tone than the more apocalyptic Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's a happier time in Middle-earth -- or so many believe until word comes of a Necromancer and a vague, but definite threat looming somewhere that foreshadows the later events of LOTR -- when Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) finds himself besieged by Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) and 13 dwarves asking this meek, comfort-loving hobbit to leave behind his home and join them on a dangerous quest. they endure a series of dangerous encounters with the many creatures and races of Middle-earth.

Glasgow 2014 e-Portfolio :: Guilford College Zombie Survival Guide :: Welcome About Us Hello, and welcome to the Guilford College Zombie Survival Guide. What you'll find on this website is the result of the work of Heather Hayton's English 400 capstone class, fall 2011, entitled “The Quick and the Undead.” This website and its content are the final product of a class-wide project to give people a taste of what we've been studying all semester. In case you hadn't picked up on it yet, the class is all about zombies. How does Night of the Living Dead reflect the social and political anxieties of its historical context? That's just the beginning. Besides, if you start preparing now, you'll be much better off when Patient Zero starts to come down with an illness no one has ever seen before, but everyone has already imagined.
600 days to go | Glasgow 2014 Friday 30 November marks exactly 600 days until the Opening Ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. To mark the milestone, which falls appropriately on St Andrew’s Day, pupils from St Andrew’s Primary School in Cumbernauld celebrated the countdown to the Games by donning the Official Glasgow 2014 Tartan for an extra-special plaid-time! In 600 days, in front of a television audience of more than one billion, the Commonwealth Games gets underway in Glasgow. It’s going to be the largest sporting and cultural event Scotland will ever host, featuring up to 15,000 volunteers and with one million tickets available to watch the best athletes in the Commonwealth competing for gold in a host of world class venues. “It is fitting this St Andrew’s Day that we mark 600 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow and Scotland’s Commonwealth Games,” said Chief Executive of Glasgow 2014 David Grevemberg.
