Tous ceux qui s’intéressent à l’Open Access ou à l’édition scientifique l’auront entendu : Elsevier vient officiellement d’acheter Mendeley, la plateforme de gestion de références bibliographiques. Depuis mardi matin, cette annonce fait le buzz sur les réseaux sociaux scientifiques et les médias qui s’y intéressent. La majorité des réactions sont négatives. Le nom même d’Elsevier sonne comme une musique angoissante de film d’horreur. Celui qui l’entend est aux aguets. Il sait que quelque chose de mauvais va probablement arriver. Elsevier a racheté Mendeley entre 69 à 100 millions de dollars. L'un des plus importants éditeurs de revues scientifiques au monde a racheté l'outil de gestion et de partage de références bibliographiques le plus en vogue dans les milieux académiques. Car le rachat de l'application par le géant Elsevier pose question. Si vous utilisez Mendeley, ce rachat est peut-être l'occasion de vous interroger sur les conséquences d'un tel changement. Mais, pas de fatalité, il existe une alternative rodée et sûre à Mendeley : Zotero.

Mendeley has built an impressive user-base of scientists and other academics since they started, but the possibility of an Elsevier takeover has worried some of its users.
