Accidental Click Ignites Insane 3,000-Ship Battle in 'EVE Online' Gamers were agog this weekend when screenshots and videos of an enormous (and somewhat accidental) battle in EVE Online hit the web. All told, 3,161 players duked it out in the Asakai system; 222 ships were killed, resulting in a loss of 470 billion ISK (the in-game currency), according to EVE-Kill.net. Reports from Reddit and EVE bloggers indicate the fray was sparked when the pilot of a titan ship (the most expensive class in the game) prematurely jumped into enemy space, rather than warp allies to his location (a technique known as "bridging"). A lone titan in "low security" space is like blood in the water, and players from multiple factions rushed in, with reinforcements piling on to attack and defend. Playtesting for Steve Jackson Games Games like ours are complex. Careful outside playtesting is necessary, or mistakes – lots of mistakes – will get through. This seems like a Bad Thing, and we try to avoid it. Luckily for us, a lot of people enjoy playtesting, because the playtesters are the first ones to see the game, and they have a real voice in the direction it takes. Playtesting for Munchkin Most of our Munchkin playtesting happens in Austin, so we can observe carefully which cards work well, which jokes aren't as funny as we thought, and so on. Playtesting for GURPS Supplements The GURPS playtester pool is made up of registered e23 customers who have spent more than $50 in the past 12 months. Those selected for playtests are permitted to download required files and print out a single hardcopy for personal use. Playtesters who contribute comments that the author feels are significantly useful ("I really think this is cool" does NOT qualify) will receive credit in the supplement. The Perfect Man and the Perfect Woman Once upon a time, a perfect man and a perfect woman met. After a perfect courtship, they had a perfect wedding. Their life together was, of course, perfect. One snowy, stormy Christmas Eve, this perfect couple was driving their perfect car (a Grand Caravan) along a winding road, when they noticed someone at the side of the road in distress. There stood Santa Claus with a huge bundle of toys. Unfortunately, the driving conditions deteriorated and the perfect couple and Santa Claus had an accident. Who was the survivor?
