Calligraphies et enluminures Après plusieurs années où s’entremêlèrent cours de peinture, de dessin et de photographie, la rencontre avec l’histoire du moyen-âge fût pour moi une révélation. Né sur les bords de la Marne avec ses paysages calmes et romantiques habités par ces peintres du dimanche ; recherchant la lumière et la couleur idéale, ces deux éléments fascinants, s’imposent comme essentiel à mon art avec cet univers créatif et ornemental sans limite, fait pour sublimer des textes évangéliques comme représentés sur les psautiers, les livres d’heures, ou encore des scènes de la vie de ce temps ancien. Quelle chance que le papier ne soit pas encore connu en Occident ! Ecritures, dessins, peintures étaient exécutés sur des peaux d’animaux : la peinture, fabriquée à base de pigments purs et l’or en feuilles, venait finaliser des œuvres faites pour durer plus de 1000 ans… ! J’expose pour l’année à l’Abbaye de Belloc et pour la saison à la galerie du « Taoulet » à la Bastide Clairence(64). Finition, retouche.

Enluminure et calligraphie - Encre La fabrication d'encre pour la calligraphie est un exercice très enrichissant. C'est très facile de réussir son encre et cela ressemble à quelque alchimie mystérieuse qui nous replonge dans quelque arrière-boutique obscure du Moyen-Age. Pour commencer, il vous faut partir à la recherche des différents éléments constitutifs de notre encre. La liste des ingrédients est la suivante : noix de galle - 10g, vitriol vert ou bleu - 7g, gomme arabique - 10g. Les noix de galle se trouvent au gré de vos ballades en forêt. Vous laisserez macérer une semaine les noix concassées dans un demi litre d'eau la plus pure possible.

The Library and the Museum have a long, shared history and a very close working relationship; and so we were absolutely delighted when the British Museum so kindly agreed to lend us some amazing objects for our exhibition. We're very grateful to our counterparts in the Departments of Coins and Medals, Prehistory and Europe and Prints and Drawing for making this possible. It's another great example of collaboration between two national institutions (here's another blogpost about the loans from The National Archives). Classical & Medieval MSS - Bodleian Library History and scope The Bodleian Library holds a highly important collection of manuscripts from medieval Europe and the Byzantine Empire – the largest to be found in any university library in the world, and within the United Kingdom second only to the British Library. The manuscripts are mostly on parchment or paper and in codex form, and are written both in Latin and Greek and in the European vernaculars. The collecting of manuscripts by the University of Oxford (as distinct from individual colleges) goes back to the construction of the room above the Divinity School to house the manuscript books donated by Duke Humfrey of Gloucester in the 15th century. Only a handful of Duke Humfrey’s books survive today; but the University’s library, ever since its re-foundation by Sir Thomas Bodley in 1602, has continued to acquire medieval manuscripts, mostly through gift and bequest.
