Twitter improves student learning? Researchers at Michigan State University are exploring the use of Twitter in the classroom. The study suggests Twitter will change the way people communicate in the classroom. Christine Greenhow, Assistant Professor of Education at MSU, conducted the research and says students are much more engaged when they are actively tweeting with the teacher and classmates and others outside of class. “Some of the time this engagement took the form of them tweeting out to the authors they were reading and sharing some insights on what they read. “Surprisingly”, she said, “many times the writers or authors tweet back – so it’s a very different experience than just reading something by yourself or in a class.” Greenhow says Twitter’s 140 character bursts of real-time information teach students to write concisely and to collaborate with one another, “Twitter, tweeting is really changing the way young people experience what they read and it’s changing the way they write and the way they get information.”

Dans l’Enseignement supérieur, et contrairement aux idées reçus, Twitter se révèle pourtant un outil efficace pour accroître l’intérêt que portent les étudiants à leurs cours. «Les étudiants s’intéressent davantage aux sujets abordés lorsqu’ils en entendent parler sur Twitter ,parce qu’ils sentent que cela est connecté à quelque chose de réel», explique Christina Greenhow, auteur de l’étude. Pour obtenir de tels résultats, les étudiants sont invités à suivre les comptes Twitter des enseignants. Enfin, «les étudiants échangent également beaucoup plus qu’ils ne le feraient au sein de la salle de classe, que ce soit entre eux ou avec leurs camarades» conclut-elle.

Twitter: 140 MAX, le premier Festival International de Twittérature au monde débute ce mardi 16 octobre QUÉBEC – C’est ce mardi qu’a lieu le tout premier festival de twittérature au monde. Un événement international réunissant des nano-auteurs de cinq pays. Condensé en une seule journée chargée à bloc, le Festival International de Twittérature (140 MAX) se donne pour mandat de faire découvrir au grand public la littérature qui s’écrit sur Twitter en moins de 140 caractères. Un genre bien vivant et en pleine expansion, même si le phénomène date de moins de cinq ans. Organisé par Jean-Yves Fréchette et son équipe, l’événement 140 MAX s’inscrit dans la programmation du festival littéraire Québec en toutes lettres. Si les élèves des commissions scolaires Beauce-Etchemin, des Premières-Seigneuries et de la Capitale connaissent déjà bien la twittérature, 140 MAX vise à aller chercher de nouveaux adeptes en plus de satisfaire le public adulte initié.
