Teaching listening – example lesson world cup This post was inspired by a listening lesson I did twice with two different elementary level 1-1 students last week. It is based on the listening from Breaking News English which you can find here. I decided to do something different from what the lesson plan on the website suggested, and devise my own procedure, taking into account the 15 listening tips I wrote about last month: “Planning a listening lesson – 15 tips”, which try to take you beyond the standard CELTA approach. First, please read through the lesson plan below and identify which of the 15 listening tips I used when designing the lesson procedure. Lesson procedure Lead-in: Are you enjoying the World Cup? Listening for gist: Don’t worry about understanding every single word. Speaking: Do you share the speaker’s opinion? Relistening: What was difficult about the first listening? What new information did you learn after the second listening? Vocabulary: What words do you associate with football and the World Cup? Reflection:

Listen A Minute: Easier English Listening and Activities I'll tell you a story - Audio Written by Anonymous "The Story of the Three Bears" (sometimes known as "The Three Bears", "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" or, simply, "Goldilocks") is a fairy talefirst recorded in narrative form by British author and poet Robert Southey, and first published anonymously in a volume of his writings in 1837. The same year, British writer George Nicol published a version in rhyme based upon Southey's prose tale, with Southey approving the attempt to bring the story more exposure. "The Story of the Three Bears" was in circulation before the publication of Southey's 1837 version. "The Story of the Three Bears" experienced two significant changes during its early publication history. (Wikipedia) Click on "Read more" to listen the audio book.

787 Listening Worksheets Listening can be a challenge even for experienced ESL students. Scoring high on a grammar quiz may be a piece of cake, but it’s not always easy to make out every word a native speaker says - especially when that speaker is talking at normal speed, without pauses between words. Even so, listening is a crucial component of modern ESL teaching, right up there with grammar, speaking, and writing. The question of how, exactly to approach that, though, isn’t always clear. Whatever your approach - or set of approaches - to listening exercises, BusyTeacher.org has worksheets just for you. The exercises offered on our listening worksheets come in a wide range of formats - from exercises in which students transcribe interviews with celebrities, to ones in which they listen to popular songs or even read-aloud poems. No matter which level or style of exercise you use, you can be sure that it’s already been tested and found to work in a classroom like yours.
