On a également découvert d'autres produits chimiques provenant, notamment, des cosmétiques, des articles de toilette, des additifs et des médicaments vétérinaires. Tous ces produits chimiques sont regroupés sous l'appellation « PPSP », ce qui signifie les produits pharmaceutiques et produits de soins personnels. La présente fiche d'information fait le point sur ce nouvel enjeu en matière de santé et d'écologie. D'où viennent les PPSP? Jordan Maxwell | Esoteric Scholar Residus de médicaments dans l'eau > Développer les savoirs sur l’eau et les milieux aquatiques - Onema Depuis une quinzaine d’années, les progrès de l’analyse physico-chimique ont permis de détecter la présence de résidus de médicaments dans les eaux naturelles superficielles et souterraines ainsi que dans l’eau destinée à la consommation humaine. Antibiotiques, antidépresseurs, bêtabloquants, contraceptifs oraux… autant de substances biologiquement actives qui sont rejetées de façon continue dans les milieux aquatiques au niveau des stations d’épuration des eaux usées et des déversoirs d’orage aménagés sur les réseaux d’assainissement. Si tout risque de toxicité aiguë est écarté, ces micropolluants sont néanmoins susceptibles d’avoir un impact sur les organismes aquatiques. Cette problématique complexe est au cœur des grandes priorités du conseil scientifique animé par l’Onema, qui a programmé, en mai prochain, l’organisation d’un séminaire sur ce sujet. L’objectif ? Roland Courteau attire l'attention de Mme la secrétaire d'État chargée de l'écologie sur les conséquences, pour la reproduction des espèces, de la présence dans les eaux des rivières, des estuaires, notamment, et à proximité des côtes, de substances médicamenteuses, non dégradées par les stations d'épuration. Il lui indique que certaines études tendraient à prouver que la « féminisation » des poissons pourrait résulter de la présence dans ces mêmes eaux de telles substances (contraceptifs, anticancéreux, anti-inflammatoires, anti-cholestérol, et autres cosmétiques ou détergents…). Dans tous les cas, la reproduction des espèces semblerait être particulièrement perturbée. Il lui demande si elle est en mesure de lui apporter plus de précisions par rapport à une situation, semble-t-il, très préoccupante et sur les initiatives susceptibles d'être prises pour la corriger.

Norwegian farmed fish drug monitoring programme shows absence of residues ' ' src=' '> ' ' src=' '> ANALYSES of Norwegian farmed fish collected in 2010 consistently show an absence of drug residues in the samples. Low concentrations of some delousing agents have been found in a few samples, but the values are well below the limits set for these substances. In addition, traces of the drug chloramphenicol was found in one sample. This drug is not approved for use in food-producing animals, including fish. Based on an overall assessment of the new results, the food safety is considered to be good. To ensure that farmed fish for human consumption does not contain residues of legally used drugs including delousing agents in harmful concentrations, or residues of illegal drugs, Norway has a control system that complies with international guidelines in this area (Directive 96/23). Residues of another drug against salmon lice, emamectin benzoate, have been found in samples from the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, but never above the limit, which for this drug is 100 ng/g.

The findings are internationally significant as the city’s sewage treatment system is similar to that in use in other major cities, and moreover, it is reputed to be the third largest treatment system in the world. The Saint Lawrence is a major international waterway that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes, and it surrounds the island of Montreal. “Montreal has a very basic sewage system – the city basically only removes solids, there’s no disinfecting of the water,” he explained. “We know that antidepressants have negative side effects on human beings,” Dr Sauvé said, “but we don’t know how exactly how these chemicals are affecting the fish, and by extension, the Saint Lawrence River’s ecosystem.”
