How Your Cat Is Making You Crazy

How Your Cat Is Making You Crazy
No one would accuse Jaroslav Flegr of being a conformist. A self-described “sloppy dresser,” the 53-year-old Czech scientist has the contemplative air of someone habitually lost in thought, and his still-youthful, square-jawed face is framed by frizzy red hair that encircles his head like a ring of fire. Certainly Flegr’s thinking is jarringly unconventional. The parasite, which is excreted by cats in their feces, is called Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii or Toxo for short) and is the microbe that causes toxoplasmosis—the reason pregnant women are told to avoid cats’ litter boxes. But if Flegr is right, the “latent” parasite may be quietly tweaking the connections between our neurons, changing our response to frightening situations, our trust in others, how outgoing we are, and even our preference for certain scents. An evolutionary biologist at Charles University in Prague, Flegr has pursued this theory for decades in relative obscurity. He delved into T. gondii’s life cycle. Toxoplasmosis Increases Rage, Impulse, and Mental Health Issues When will mainstream medicine admit that Toxoplasma gondii chronic infections cause many different mental disorders? For how long do we continue to treat these infections with anti-depressants and anti-psychotic medication? I hope that, one day we will treat and reduce these mental health issues with medications that rid the brain of T. gondii and reduce the inflammation caused by the parasite. Microbiologists have known for years that most medical conditions are caused by infections. There is plenty of information that links together toxoplasmosis and schizophrenia, now it is also linked to explosive anger disorders, suicidal behavior, and impulsivity. A recent study may provide clues in how this parasite causes multiple mental illnesses. It does not surprise me that T. gondii causes similar mental issues with its other hosts. So what happens when this parasite wreaks havoc in our brain? Positive IgG antibodies were found in 9% of the healthy control.

Can Vitamin C Cure Ebola? Steve Hickey, Hilary Roberts & Damien Downing, GreenMedInfoWaking Times If there were a drug that worked on Ebola you should use it. There isn’t. There is only vitamin C. But you must be extremely careful what you believe, because, as it ever was, the Internet is full of dangerous loonies. Taking a gram or so of day of vitamin C won’t protect you against anything except acute scurvy; it doesn’t matter whether the vitamin is liposomal, nanoparticles, or even gold-plated. At risk or worried about Ebola? Vitamin C Vitamin C is the primary antioxidant in the diet. The intake for an otherwise healthy person to have a reasonable chance of avoiding a common cold is in the region of 8-10 grams (8,000-10,000 mg) a day. Dynamic Flow The problem with oral intakes is that healthy people do not absorb vitamin C well due to something Dr Robert Cathcart called bowel tolerance. High dose vitamin C has a short half-life in the body. Types of Vitamin C Timing is more important than form. Rectal Vitamin C

Now that’s a crab Update: Reader Dennis Hansen, a biologist who works on the Indian Ocean island of Aldabra in the Seychelles, which (like the Galapagos) has giant tortoises, sends three coconut crab photos and a note: Here’s a few photos of coconut crabs from Aldabra, for your perusal. They leave the giant tortoises alone, it seems. At least until a tortoise dies, by which time the crabs tear it apart from the inside. When staying in one of the remote field camps on the atoll, they do what they can to rob us of our meagre field rations, though. Don’t leave food on the table, or it will disappear within a few minutes. This photo and caption are from Professor Brian Cox’s Facebook page, and apparently appear in his new book, Wonders of Life with the caption: “These animals are known locally as robber crabs on their native Christmas Island because they have a reputation for curiosity and for stealing things. Since they drown easily, one wonders how they got to all those islands. Like this: Like Loading...

Schizophrenia Might Be Caused By Toxoplasma gondii Schizophrenia might be caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. I wrote about Toxoplasma gondii years ago in Fix Your Gut. “Piperidine is used in both the treatment of parasites and worms in animals and the treatment of schizophrenia, in humans. Researchers propose that schizophrenia may result from a parasite infection like T. gondii.” Finally, the news media and the medical establishment has gotten around to reporting it. Therefore, how many studies have there been to establish a link? For centuries, cats were the end host for Toxoplasma gondii. Cats warmed up to their human masters driven by Toxoplasma gondii madness to find a greater host to infect the world. Toxoplasma gondii can be tested using blood tests for antibodies, either IGG or IGM. IGG antibodies are produced by the body several weeks after contact with the parasite. PCR testing can also be performed to determine Toxoplasma gondii infection through the analysis of DNA.

When The CDC Tells Us To Prepare For The Ebola Pandemic, Things Are About To Get Real | Health (Before It's News) The Organic Prepper Daisy Luther Are you ready for the possibility of an Ebola pandemic that will interrupt the day-to-day life of most Americans? Because now, the CDC has issued a checklist and said that “Now is the time to prepare.” You can read the entire document HERE. The checklist is a directory for hospitals and medical personnel. “Every hospital should ensure that it can detect a patient with Ebola, protect healthcare workers so they can safely care for the patient, and respond in a coordinated fashion…While we are not aware of any domestic Ebola Virus Disease cases (other than two American citizens who were medically evacuated to the United States), now is the time to prepare, as it is possible that individuals with EVD in West Africa may travel to the United States, exhibit signs and symptoms of EVD, and present to facilities.” The CDC’s Ebola virus page is HERE. The state department has purchased 160,000 Ebola Hazmat suits. Are you prepped for a pandemic?

Microbiome composition of children infected with helminths — The American Microbiome Institute While much has been explored regarding the microbiome’s role in nutrition and immunology, more research is needed in uncovering interactions between the host microbiome and infection as this represents a high unmet medical need. A few weeks ago we talked about a study that describes an interesting relationship between helminth infection and sensitivity to insulin in Indonesia. Helminth infections are also prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, where many children become exposed to Schistosoma haematobium, causing schistosomes and dramatically affecting childhood health and development. Researchers from Africa sought to investigate whether there were significant differences in microbiome composition between children who were infected with S. haematobium and those who were not. Stool samples were collected from 139 pediatric patients from six months to 13 years old, and groups were segregated following proper diagnosis of S. haematobium infection.

Contrary To What We’re Told ALS Does Have Known Causes & Treatments – Here They Are The Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Ice Bucket challenge is continuing to explode across the worldwide web, and it’s a great opportunity to capitalize on spreading more awareness on how we can implement disease prevention and let people know that there are treatments and potential cures out there that do exist. Don’t get me wrong, between June 1 and August 13, there were over a million videos posted on Facebook and millions of mentions on Twitter. This campaign has led unprecedented attention to the fight against ALS, and it should indeed be applauded as many people’s hearts are in the right place. What is ALS? ALS is often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” it’s a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Possible Causes of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis I find it remarkable how this information is not made available on the ALS Association website, especially at a time when everybody is doing the ice bucket challenge. Organisms Inside You - Part 3: Entamoeba histolytica Entamoeba histolytica is an opportunistic protozoan. Infection of the parasite occurs from ingestion of contaminated food and water. The parasite usually remains in the colon and cecum but can cause invasive infections in immunocompromised individuals. Histolytica can spread to the liver, brain, and lungs through the bloodstream if you are immunocompromised and requires emergency treatment. Symptoms of infection usually appear one to four weeks after ingestion. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pain, stomach cramps, and rarely fever and liver issues. If you require medication to rid yourself of the parasite, ask your doctor about using Diloxanide furoate, Iodoquinol, or Tindamax.

AddThis Organisms Inside You Part 2: Cryptosporidium There are some parasites that spread in more ways then ingestion of contaminated food and water. If you swim on a regular basis, you might have contracted Cryptosporidium, even if you swim in chlorinated pools. Cryptosporidium is a genus of apicomplexan protozoans that causes the disease cryptosporidiosis. Cryptosporidiosis is a self-limiting condition in healthy people. In people with compromised immune systems, cryptosporidiosis can become an emergency. Lactoferrin, silver, and EDTA deprive the parasites of iron that they need to survive. Ester-C, activated charcoal, and chlorella, to limit the herx reactions from toxic exposure from eliminating parasites. Black walnut and wormwood naturally remove parasites.

Oral Pathogens Can Lead to Cancers in Other Parts of Your Body Dr. MercolaWaking Times Good oral hygiene is even more important than previously thought. Pathogenic microorganisms and their toxins can harm more than just your mouth when they circulate through your bloodstream—they can potentially cause secondary infections and chronic inflammation throughout your body. The fact that oral pathogens can make their way to distant parts of your anatomy and cause serious problems has been known for many years. Even dentists would agree that bacteria can pass from your gums into your bloodstream and on to your heart, which is why some still prescribe oral antibiotics to a few select patients with a particularly high risk for endocarditis, particularly if they have gingivitis.1 But it appears that the rare case of endocarditis is only the tip of the iceberg. Poor Oral Health Is a Risk Factor for Oropharyngeal Cancers In this study, participants with poor oral health had a 56 percent higher rate of HPV infection than those with healthy mouths. 1 WebMD

Organisms Inside You - Part 1: Blastocystis hominis Blastocystis is a genus of single-celled protozoan, which its colonization in most cases is asymptomatic. The intestinal colonization of hominis is somewhat common because of the low host specificity of the protozoan. Colonization rates differ between developed (10%) and less developed (50%) countries, and it seems to infect people more frequently who work and live with animals. Most people with adequate immune systems are asymptomatic carriers. There is much debate in the scientific community if Blastocystis hominis even cause infections in humans or if it is a commensal protozoan. Blastocystosis is an opportunistic infection of the protozoan that can rarely occur. Abdominal painConstipationDiarrheaFatigueFlatulenceWeight lossFood allergiesIntestinal inflammationSkin rashesHeadachesIBSIBD Blastocystosis might occur because of an infection of a different more unknown opportunistic strain of Blastocystis. Amount of shedding microogranisms through stool differ from day to day.
