Birthday Cake Recipe: Funfetti Cake From Scratch Do you love sprinkles in your birthday cake? Was the classic Pillsbury cake mix Funfetti your very favorite? Funfetti cakes were a staple of childhood birthday parties, but I haven't had one in a long time — probably because I don't really use boxed cake mixes anymore. I realized, though, that it is still a snap to make a Funfetti cake. Just add sprinkles! Yes indeed, that's all you need to do, to make a Funfetti cake from scratch. The CakeI combed through some of my favorite recipes for white cake, including a classic one from Joy of Cooking. This particular recipe comes out very fluffy, and not too terribly sweet. • Cake recipe adapted from: White Velvet Cake from Rose Levy Berenbaum Personally, I love 4-layer cakes, so I baked this cake in four cake pans, instead of two. The FrostingFor the frosting I used a very plain, basic white buttercream. • Vanilla Buttercream Frosting at I Am Baker • Basic Cooked Buttercream Frosting • How To Make Sprinkles for Cupcakes, Cookies & Cakes Funfetti!

Simple Sundays | Lemon Curd Today’s post comes by way of a special request from a reader comment when I published my recipe for No Bake Lemon Curd Cheesecake Bars a few weeks ago. When I made the bars, I used the convenient (yet divine) lemon curd from Trader Joe’s. However, we don’t all have a Trader Joe’s nearby, and the truth is, Lemon Curd is really very simple to make. Thanks to Stef the request! Lemon curd – I could eat it by the spoonful. But, it really is so easy to make; store bought lemon curd isn’t exactly time saving. Simply put, lemon curd is a custard, but take a look at all the recipes in the books and online, and you will see that there can be quite a variation when it comes to the critical ingredient (other than the lemon, of course) and the methodology. Tortellini with Mushrooms, Spinach and Italian Sausage - dinner with Julie — dinner with Juliedinner with Julie » Tortellini with Mushrooms, Spinach and Italian Sausage I know you guys are all gaga over one-dish dinner ideas, and I’ve got a good one for ya. Everyone devoured this, and Mike asked if there was any way it could be put into regular rotation. It seems to me the sort of thing that might make most husbands happy, if I may generalize here. Again, my inspiration came from desperation – to use the last of two tubs of baby spinach and some mushrooms that had not quite shriveled up and died. The recipe started here, but let’s face it – I never have fennel bulbs and fronds in my house.

Individual Peanut Butter Pies This is not going to be a typical post on My Baking Addiction. It’s more of a reminder to take a moment to hug those you love a little tighter. Last Sunday, food writer, Jennifer Perillo lost her husband, Mikey to a sudden heart attack. On Tuesday, Jennie wrote a post entitled For Mikey, where Jennie made a simple request, “For those asking what they can do to help my healing process, make a peanut butter pie this Friday and share it with someone you love.” A Facebook group formed and over 800 people signed on to do just that – make a pie to share with our loved ones as a tribute to Mikey. Again, give those dear to you a little extra lovin’ today, because in Jennie’s words,“Today is the only guarantee we can count on.” If you enjoyed this recipe, you may like... Homemade Lip Balm | FIMBY You've stumbled upon one of my most popular posts. You might also enjoy let's talk lip balm. After making my own lip balm I will never buy it again. It's easy, cheap, 100% natural and good for your lips, especially this time of year. Ingredients 1/2 oz. Directions In a small pot over medium low heat melt beeswax, coconut oil, lanolin and vitamin E. This recipe makes enough for 3 - 3/4 oz tins (see photo for size) and one 1 1/2 oz jar. Notes I prefer to measure kitchen cosmetics with a scale but I included the approximate tsp. measurements for those without a scale. All ingredients can be found at a natural food store or ordered from an online store such as Mountain Rose Herbs. Some people are allergic to lanolin. I always use solid honey, that's just the kind of have. This recipe makes enough to last our family of 5 several months, plus I usually give away a tin from each batch I make.

Corned Beef Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Guinness Caramelized Onions When I made the Guinness caramelized onions for the onion cheddar quiche I could not help but snack on a few of them before adding them to the quiche and I was immediately entranced by them! While I was slowly caramelizing the onions, images were flying through my head with all of the different ways that I could use them and I wanted to try them all! I was finding it difficult to decide exactly which dish to make when I had the idea of using them in a grilled cheese sandwich and I was sold! I was thinking that a corned beef grilled cheese sandwich would be perfect for St Patrick's Day and stuffing it with drunken caramelized onions would be a treat indeed! Given the use of the corned beef in this sandwich I was reminded another favourite, the reuben sandwich , and because of that I decided to go with a dark rye for the bread. Chew on This | Reuben Sandwich My favorite day arrives on Saturday. March 17th. I'm not Irish, so the day doesn't hold significance in that way. It's just that seventeen is my favorite number. And March is a month that brings with it the promise of warmer, longer, splendid sunny days after a cold, snowy winter. Well, this winter has been an anomaly. I guess these shifts will continue. One thing I can embrace is slowly getting back into the kitchen. Don't we all? I'm pretty darn sure this sandwich will bring a happy grin to your lips and a joyful beat to your heart. Cares Here's our recipe: Reuben Sandwich Corned Beef: 1 bottle beer (12 ounces) 1 C beef broth 1 T granulated sugar 1 t powdered mustard 1/2 medium onion, chopped into lagre chunks 4 garlic cloves, minced 1/2 t peppercorns pinch of salt 3 1/2 pound corned beef brisketCombine your beer, beef broth, sugar and powdered mustard together in your slow cooker. Sandwich: sliced corned beef sauerkraut (drained) sliced swiss cheese rye or marble rye bread butterskillet

How To Make Perfect Brownies I’ve tried lots of brownie recipes: Boxes, scratch, frosted, plain, nuts, chips, fudge … Each of them has something to like, but depending on my mood I might want a change of pace. Not any more. My wife found this recipe, and it’s perfect. I’m done looking. This is the brownie recipe that I’ll use from now on. Ingredients 1½ cups sugar ¾ cup flour ¾ cup cocoa powder (see note below) 3 eggs ¾ cup butter, melted ½ teaspoon salt (if using unsalted butter) ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (see note below) Directions A NOTE ON CHOCOLATE: You’ll notice the list of ingredients is very short. The assembly is about as easy as you can get. Do this by hand, until the dry ingredients are just incorporated into the wet, and stop. Stir in the chocolate chips. Line a 9×13 baking dish with parchment. Pour the batter and spread it out. Bake at 325° for 20-30 minutes. Very carefully lift the parchment out of the baking dish. Peel the edges and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Like this recipe?
