SEA-SAWS SEA-SAWS is fun for kids of all ages. Select photographs of natural and man-made objects, then arrange the pieces to create a seascape or an abstract composition. The BUILD tool helps you construct animated characters and set them in motion. (Shockwave, 7.5 MB) FACES & PLACES helps children of all ages create portraits and landscape paintings in the style of American naive artists. By combining visual elements borrowed from more than 100 works in the National Gallery's permanent collection, this two-part interactive activity offers an overview of American folk art of the 18th and 19th centuries. Photo Op is a large program and it may take some time to download. The NGAkids Still Life (Shockwave, 8 MB) helps you create interactive art that mirrors the paintings of the old masters. A still life slideshow (Flash, 32K) features photographs of real paintings and art objects in the National Gallery of Art that were the inspiration for this interactive.

MulticolorEngine MulticolorEngine gives you the ability to search your images using colors as a search parameter. You are familiar with searching using keywords: you provide a keyword to a search engine and it replies with a list of search results that include that keyword. With MulticolorEngine, your search query is one or more colors and the results are images that contain your query colors. MulticolorEngine analyzes the pixels in the images and does not use meta data, tags or any other information associated National Gallery of Art - Kids Art Zone NGAkids Art Zone on CD The recently revised Art Zone CD includes 17 of our most popular interactive programs: Brushster, Dutch House, Faces and Places, Jungle, Photo Op, Sea-Saws, Still Life, 3-D Twirler, Collage Machine, Cubits, Flow, Mobile, Paintbox/Swatchbox, Pixelface, and Wallovers. Education Plans Here at Kodable HQ, we enjoy the occasional complexities in life, but we mostly prefer to keep things simple. Sound familiar? After a year of talking with teachers using Kodable in their classrooms, we discovered that we needed to rework our approach to coding education, and fashion a programming curriculum that is equally as beneficial for students, but easier for teachers to manage. Well, we ran back to the lab, performed some tests, and created plans to meet the needs of educators using Kodable! Origami Dress Card After seeing the sweet Origami Dresses over at Craft & Creativity, I was inspired to make an Origami Dress Card for a special friend’s birthday. There is a helpful uTube video that guides you through the steps on folding the dress. I used a 6 x 6 inch square of origami paper that I had in my paper stash (purchased from Daiso); added some twine; little pegs; and washi tape. I love how the dress gives the card a 3D element.

Vidcode: A Coding App Created with Girls in Mind by Alexandra Diracles & Melissa Halfon A Coding App Created with Girls in Mind We’ve introduced and tested Vidcode across the country and one thing is clear: girls love it. When girls code effects for their videos with Vidcode, they’re excited to see that they, too, can be computer programmers. It opens up a whole world of possibilities for them in creative technology. This is why we’re reaching out to you and the Kickstarter community, so we can continue to develop Vidcode and reach girls coast-to-coast. Our Kickstarter funds will be used to develop more content for our app users and to deliver our first product to schools.

Paper Toys: Flextangles Today’s paper toys, Flextangles, are the fourth project in our collaborative series STEAM POWER: Empowering kids to explore the world through creative projects. Today’s topic is COMPUTE! Since I recently answered this question wrong, I decided it might be good idea for me to limit my math based project to something I’m good at: geometry. I’ve been itching to try making a flexagon ever since my friend Erica mentioned them, so I decided it was high time we made one.
