Using Stain to Make Artwork! {Burn pile Buffet Part 2}
If you missed Part 1 of our Buffet Transformation, click here to read about how we rescued this buffet from a burn pile… stripped, sanded, repaired, primed, and painted! Next is the fun part. You may not know this about me, but I love to draw with charcoal. I love the shading, and the instant gratification of seeing a masterpiece unfold before your eyes. I can’t draw a person to save my life… but I can shade, yo! I get an inordinate amount of joy from coming up with new ways to make furniture (or a room) unique and beautiful. If you’ve ever stained something before, you know that the longer you leave stain on the wood, the darker the finish will be when you wipe it off. With that in mind, I started with the center petals and stained each petal, starting at the center and working my way out toward the tip of the petal. As you can see I didn’t stain all the way out to the edge of the petals, because I wanted that to be the lightest portion of my ‘shading’. Are you so inspired? UPDATE!

I've been eyeing this ottoman for at least two years: But, it's $522.99, and that's on Overstock.com (regular price $706). 1) Jumped on Craigslist.com and searched for free semi-trailer tires (I wanted my ottoman to be a nice, round, full figured girl who isn't afraid to flaunt her curves). This blog has been interrupted to bring you the following announcement: NOTE: The instructions are $2.99 and are in PDF format. I love her!

Cents and Sensibility: How to Make a Penny Floor | A Detailed House With two little ones running around the house, I am always picking things up off the floor. I am amazed, though, by the sheer number of coins! Granted, we play “store” a lot, which involves a cash register, spare change, and my youngest setting up “shop” where ever I am… no matter what I’m doing, working or not! They have piggy banks that they love to fill, so why are the coins spread cavalierly on the floor? I tell myself it’s good for me – like exercise – and picking them up is the equivalent of toe touches, but not even an Army Drill Sargent would put someone through this ;-) Now my thought process is that I’m just going to start cementing them down, so I will eventually end up with these floors: (via Portland Press Herald) The Standard Grill (in the Standard Hotel New York) did it. The three pictures above are of a massive concrete floor. This floor has no thinset, merely polyurethane and epoxy (via Happy Roost Blog) (via apartmenttherapy.com) Nickels are about $10/square foot Like this:
