Church in Northern Arabia Longs for ‘Place to Worship’ Bishop Camillo Ballin, Vicar Apostolic of Northern Arabia. – Addie Mena/CNA WASHINGTON — As he oversees the missionary territory of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, apostolic vicar Camillo Ballin outlined Catholics’ need for religious toleration as well as a physical home for ministry. A native of Italy, Bishop Ballin set out to study Arabic and Islam in order “to discover another world” after his ordination as a priest of the Comboni Missionaries. In a May 29 interview with CNA, he noted that his travels have taken him to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan and eventually to his 2005 appointment as apostolic vicar of Kuwait. His vicariate — otherwise known as an ecclesiastical jurisdiction within the Church where a hierarchy is not yet fully organized — was expanded in 2011 to include the whole of the Northern Arabian Peninsula, which oversees Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Pope: Jesus' plan for humanity requires Catholic Church Pope Francis moves through the crowd at the April 3, 2013 general audience. Credit: Stephen Driscoll/CNA. Vatican City, May 29, 2013 / 07:56 am ( CNA/EWTN News ) .- Pope Francis began a new series of reflections by saying that although some people want Jesus but not the Church, “it is the Church that brings us Christ” and reunites us to God. “Even today, some say, ‘Christ yes, the Church no,’ like those who say, ‘I believe in God, but in priests, no.’ “Of course,” he noted, the Church “also has the human aspects: in those who compose it, pastors and faithful, there are flaws, imperfections, sins – the Pope has his, as well: he has lots of them; but the beautiful thing is that, when we become aware that we are sinners, we find the mercy of God. Pope Francis began his regular Wednesday audience by complimenting the pilgrims on withstanding the periodic rain that swept through the square as he was touring through it in the open-air popemobile. The pontiff also said what the Church is not.

Fr. Robert Barron's Word On Fire - Home Friar Jack's E-spirations Gino Santa Maria/PhotoXpress Who Is the God We Believe In? by Friar Jim Van Vurst, OFM In his lifetime, Jesus’ mission was not about building himself up. Now we have to translate those truths into our own lives. At the same time, we have an obligation to seek, love, and serve God, as well as our neighbor. Why Do We Sin? If God loves us, why do we sin? Love is the reason God is always with us on our earthly journey. God Is On Our Side The poorest image we can have of God is that of a stern, angry judge sitting on a bench high above us with a gavel in hand, reading over our good and bad deeds. Make no mistake about it: God is not weak or wishy-washy. Love cannot be forced. Readers respond to Friar Jack Wintz's May E-spiration, Musing: A Pope Who Mirrors the Values of St. Dear Friar Jack : Thank you for a marvelous view of our Church today. Lillian R Lieber and Hugh Gray Lieber This husband and wife team of a mathematician (Lillian) and illustrator (Hugh) influenced many generations of mathematically inclined readers, who stumbled on one of the Lieber books in their youth and were intrigued by their style of explaining complicated mathematics in simple language. Three of the most popular were The Einstein Theory of Relativity (1936 and later editions), Infinity (1953) and The Education of T C Mits (The Celebrated Man In The Street) (1942 and later editions). In my case I found her book explaining general relativity in the public library of the small village of Florida in rural New York State where I grew up when I was in 9th grade (?) in the mid sixties and was fascinated by the concepts that were still beyond my abilities to comprehend. Eventually I found my way into theoretical physics and general relativity as a profession. Lillian Lieber: her books and their influence Cavendish Press has a full page about her style and mentions her relativity book:
