Pilot Pick-Up Review (ABC) – 2011-2012 Season Development season is right now, and with the scripts picked to pilot about to be shot, the next best thing besides watching the finished product is reading them. As well as reviewing them. I’ll also venture a guess as to whether I think they’ll go to series or not (all of which is announced as usual at the Upfronts). So here goes. The Weekly Ansible Seabozu: the angsty self-aware monster of the dead themonstervault: “Monsters are tragic beings; they are born too tall, too strong, too heavy, they are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy"-Ishiro Honda Seabozu is an odd monster to begin with for the Vault, but I’ve chosen him because he embodies the meeting of the camp aspects of monster films and the more serious side.Appearing in an episode 35 of the original Ultraman series titled, “The Monster Graveyard,” the kaiju Seabozu is unlike any other being faced by Ultraman. The Science Patrol (the protagonists in this procedural show) stumble on the Monster Graveyard while taking a stroll through space and are informed that it is the home of all the kaiju dispatched by Ultraman.

Best Independent Films – 25 Best Independent Movies of All Time – ELLE 1. Melvin and Howard (1980) Photo: MCA/Universal Pictures/Photofest Mary Steenburgen plays a sassy stripper in Jonathan Demme’s early comedy. When her jealous mate incites her boss to fire her, she whips off her costume and sashays out of the room in nothing but heels. Signe Chanel: A look inside the House of Chanel This documentary is a little old, but Signe Chanel (House of Chanel) takes us into the world of Chanel Haute Couture. As viewers we see how a collection moves along from conception of ideas, the drawings and pattern making. Then there is the intricate garment creation and eventually the runway show (where Oprah has a small cameo). But what happens after a fashion show? Watch and see, there are some lucky (wealthy) ladies who can afford to purchase these one-of-a-kind, personally tailored garments.

Ten Great Ad Agencies Of 2012 Sometimes it takes more than a village. Grey Advertising, the giant ad agency which once splintered itself into a collection of small “villages” in an attempt to capture some lightning in a bottle, took top honors as the best all around ad agency of 2012 in a quantitative online survey conducted among agency search consultants, by marketing and search firm Avidan Strategies. It is the first such survey in which the consultants, who have unique firsthand knowledge of agencies, ranked them.

Ink Tank - Make words not war The ten greatest short story writers of the twenty-first century? What, we scoff, only ten? After all, the century’s fourteen already – that’s enough time to compile a list twice as long as this one! However, we’re going to restrict ourselves to ten because we’re also interested in your input: which story writers have blown your mind since the big Y2K? Leave your comments below! The Dictionary of Imaginary Places The Dictionary of Imaginary Places (1980, 1987, 1999) is a book written by Alberto Manguel and Gianni Guadalupi. It takes the form of a catalogue of fantasy lands, islands, cities, and other locations from world literature—"a Baedecker or traveller's guide...a nineteenth-century gazetteer" for mental travelling. Slingshot! By Quinn Ginger The outskirts of Buenos Aires are grim and cluttered, and our route out of the city was lined with weathered billboards stuck like hectic postage on every flat surface. In contrast with the sleek, tech driven city center, the rim of Buenos Aires is still deeply industrial. Paula Scher Paula Scher moved to New York City and took her first job as a layout artist for Random House's children's book division. CBS Records In 1972, she was hired by CBS Records to the advertising and promotions department. After two years, she left CBS Records to pursue a more creative endeavor at a competing label, Atlantic Records, where she became the art director, designing her first album covers.

Neo-Griot April 8, 2014 Note from BW of Brazil: Today, we take on a topic that will undoubtedly be part of any conversation about the imagery of Brazil: sex tourism. Let’s face it, Brazil has long promoted itself as a country of sexual freedom, sensuality and beautiful women. But these images often portray Brazilian women as simply another commodity available for consumption in the global economy while ignoring the fact that these persons have lives, challenges and aspirations. Filmmaker Joel Zito Araújo took on this topic in one of his many important documentaries. The Evolution of Typography: A Brief History - Print Magazine by John Siebert “Illustrious” Origins Writing is one of the most fundamental forms of communication, and it traces its roots back to hieroglyphs or pictograms.
