The Dealmap – The best local deals, coupons and discounts from t

Since being acquired by Google, The (former) Dealmap team has been working furiously to integrate many of the features from The Dealmap into Google Offers. Discover relevant offers from local businesses and the brands you know and love across multiple Google properties - including Google Offers, Search, Maps and Shopping. Save offers to your Google Account for instant redemption at in-store locations with your mobile device or the Google Offers app will remind you next time you're near the store. Once at the business, open the app to show and use your offer without printing anything. Thanks to everyone who supported The Dealmap, and we hope you’ll continue to find great local deals using Google Offers.

Two location companies that are more important than Foursquare, I still love Foursquare. I check in nearly everywhere I go. I still also check in with Gowalla (my checkins) and Yelp (my Yelps) and a variety of other services. How Much For That Motorcycle In The Window? Inside eBay's Physical Push For Mobile Sales The goods artfully arranged in certain windows along Park Avenue advertise "The Inspiration Shop," but you won't find them in any actualy stores nearby. They're eBay's latest attempt to drive use of their mobile apps. The windows are festooned with flair by design star Jonathan Adler--but they're also tattooed with QR codes that take any shopper with a smartphone scanner to custom eBay landing pages that offer for sale products similar to those in the window.

"Do a Barrel Roll" on Google, and You Won't Be Disappointed "Do a barrel roll" has become a trending topic on Twitter and elsewhere, thanks to an Easter egg on Google Search. SEE ALSO: Type "Let It Snow" on Google for a Lovely Surprise Type the phrase in Google, and the screen will tumble around (it's a barrel roll, after all). The same thing happens if you search for "Z or R twice." UberCab Ordered to Cease And Desist Did Ubercab just crash and burn? Taxi and limo industry insiders in California today informed TechCrunch that the San Francisco Metro Transit Authority & the Public Utilities Commission of California have ordered the startup to cease and desist. UPDATE: Since the orders arrived on October 20th, Ubercab has remained in service under threat of penalties including up to $5,000 fee per instance of Ubercab’s operation, and potentially 90 days in jail per each day the company remains in operation past the orders. The company’s brand name and logo appear to be in metamorphosis; on its website and blog, Ubercab’s logo now reads simply “Uber,” and the company commented to its own Facebook community yesterday afternoon, “more uber than cab.” Chief executive of Ubercab Ryan Graves told TechCrunch, “We are working with the agencies [involved] to figure out their exact concerns and make sure that we’re in compliance.” The incumbent taxi industry’s concerns about Ubercab include the following:

Dollar Store Deals This morning I was watching Studio 5 on KSL (a local NBC morning show here in Utah) and they did a special on how to find a good deal at the Dollar Store and what to buy and what not to buy. I wanted to share it will ya’ll. I looked at: Overall qualityPrice per unit (sometimes ounce for ounce, or piece for piece it was cheaper to buy it in bulk somewhere else)Effectiveness for the job (if it was a cleaning product)Possible concerns–lead in the ceramic of dishes made in China, OTC medications effectiveness or safety, vitamins being “good”, etc The “dollar” stores are stocked with mainly two kinds of items…ones that are made for the dollar store, and ones that are close out from national brands. There are so many items in these stores that is difficult to find consistency in any one product or item always being there.

One Reason We Love Apple  ONE REASON WE LOVE APPLE2 years ago This isn't another Steve Jobs tribute post. The man was great, and the world is showing that. This is, rather, a reflection on why, in my opinion, Mac people are so rabid about their products. It's a reason Steve Jobs knew all so well, and worked to achieve every day. It's also a spectacular lesson for small and mld-size businesses out there, something we can all strive to achieve. UberCab Cease & Desist Means One Thing: They’re Onto Something Like most people in Silicon Valley, I’m very intrigued by this UberCab cease & desist situation. My first reaction was “uh oh”. But that quickly switched to a feeling that this is probably the best thing that could ever happen to the young startup. That may sound crazy. But it’s not. And what’s going on here should mean something to people far beyond the Valley.

Soon, Google to give search results from minute old events! - Yahoo! London, Nov 5 (ANI): An Indian born software engineer at Google Inc. has announced that the company will now provide search results from the most recent events and hot topics. The company has taken up the steps in response to the increasing use of Twitter and Facebook as a source of breaking news, the Telegraph reported. It says that around 35 per cent of searches will be affected, and results will now include pages that are just minutes old if the company's algorithm detects that the most recent information is the most relevant. "Given the incredibly fast pace at which information moves in today's world, the most recent information can be from the last week, day or even minute, and depending on the search terms, the algorithm needs to be able to figure out if a result from a week ago about a TV show is recent, or if a result from a week ago about breaking news is too old," the company's Amit Singhal wrote on the Google Search Blog.
