Home The Addams Family Premise and background[edit] Addams's original cartoons were one-panel gags. The characters were undeveloped and unnamed until the television series production. Gomez and Pugsley are enthusiastic. Morticia is even in disposition, muted, witty, sometimes deadly. Although most of the humor derives from the fact that they share macabre interests, the Addamses are not typically evil. Charles Addams began as a cartoonist in The New Yorker with a sketch of a window washer that ran on February 6, 1932.[5] His cartoons ran regularly in the magazine from 1938, when he drew the first instance of what came to be called The Addams Family, until his death in 1988.[5] Characters[edit] Gomez[edit] Main article: Gomez Addams Gomez became the master of the Addams household and the Addams patriarch, married to Morticia and the father of Wednesday and Pugsley. Journey: Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum | West Virginia Ghosts The fall air was breezy and as I became fully exposed to the chilly West Virginia wind, I felt an overwhelming sense of autumn nostalgia. October was more than halfway through, and I was quickly running out of daylight. I had reached my destination; the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, formerly known as the Weston State Hospital. Now simply a hollowed-out shell turned tourist attraction, at one time this extraordinary landmark served as a fortress that housed the mentally ill. All that remains now are the tragic tales of depression and desperation, violence and lunacy that were hidden behind the hand-cut stone exterior. In the early 1850’s, the hospital was authorized by the Virginia General Assembly under its original name, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Over the course of the following century the hospital experienced many changes in terms of patients, staff, amenities, and policies. My first reaction to the old hospital was sheer awe.

Hanging Out Over Manhattan: 7-Figure Cliff House for Sale « Dornob Anything but your ordinary house listing, this multi-million-dollar mansion may be one of the most unique properties in New York City. The so-called Pumpkin House features a face-like facade (hence the name), but also looks like it is being squeezed out over a cliff by its tightly-packed neighbors. Being perched atop a hill and pressed out beyond adjacent buildings, it has some of the most impressive terraces and views one could wish for in Washington Heights – windows in three directions rather than just looking out over the water. Originally, the structure was free-standing and towered above its surroundings – now, if it weren’t for the overhang, one would hardly notice it against the building heights in the area. What may be more amazing than the 3000-square-foot property itself is the fact that it used to just be the guest house for a larger estate – hard to imagine such a remarkable residence being a secondary consideration, but surely great for the guests.
