Hip hop music While often used to refer to rapping, "hip hop" more properly denotes the practice of the entire subculture.[9][10] The term hip hop music is sometimes used synonymously with the term rap music,[2][5] though rapping is not a required component of hip hop music; the genre may also incorporate other elements of hip hop culture, including DJing and scratching, beatboxing, and instrumental tracks.[11][12] Origin of the term Creation of the term hip hop is often credited to Keith Cowboy, rapper with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.[13] However, Lovebug Starski, Keith Cowboy, and DJ Hollywood used the term when the music was still known as disco rap.[14] It is believed that Cowboy created the term while teasing a friend who had just joined the U.S. 1970s Origins 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, the Bronx, a venue used by Kool Herc that is often considered the birthplace of hip hop in 1973[18]

Beatboxing 101 - BEAT NYC Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of producing drum beats, rhythm, and musical sounds using one's mouth, lips, tongue, and voice. It may also involve singing, vocal imitation of turntablism, and the simulation of horns, strings, and other musical instruments. The term beatboxing is sometimes used to refer to vocal percussion in general. Music of Africa Given the vastness of the continent, the traditional music of Africa is historically ancient, rich, and diverse, with the different regions and nations of Africa having distinct musical traditions. Traditional music in much of the continent is passed down orally (or aurally) and is not written. In Sub-Saharan African music traditions, it also frequently relies heavily on percussion instruments of every variety, including xylophones, drums, and tone-producing instruments such as the mbira or "thumb piano."[1][2] Music by regions[edit]

64 Things Every Geek Should Know - laptoplogic.com The term ‘geek’, once used to label a circus freak, has morphed in meaning over the years. What was once an unusual profession transferred into a word indicating social awkwardness. As time has gone on, the word has yet again morphed to indicate a new type of individual: someone who is obsessive over one (or more) particular subjects, whether it be science, photography, electronics, computers, media, or any other field. A geek is one who isn’t satisfied knowing only the surface facts, but instead has a visceral desire to learn everything possible about a particular subject. A techie geek is usually one who knows a little about everything, and is thus the person family and friends turn to whenever they have a question. If you’re that type of person and are looking for a few extra skills to pick up, or if you’re a newbie aiming to get a handhold on the honor that is geekhood, read on to find out what skills you need to know.

Year 8 - beat boxing is very difficult, but some people have natural and rhythmical talent. We are going to be looking at African music and you might see some similarities in the way that voices and instruments can be used to communicate. I reckon all of you can now imitate a drum and cymbal with your voices. by misshalkyard Sep 18

Year 9 - Abbie I like how you have quoted a song to illustrate what you mean. You have all caught on the the fact that Eminem needed to be motivated to write his lyrics, and I have often said that he needs a cup of tea and a chocolate hobnob because he is very angry. It's interesting that although his lyrics contain foul language, that it is his art and he doesn't swear around the house. SO!!! What motivates all of you? And how can this inspire your lyric or music writing? by misshalkyard Sep 18
