Tuesday Tutorial: Paper Lantern Ornaments Want a cute, simple decoration that you can make in minutes? These paper lanterns are perfect for the upcoming holiday season or as an everyday decoration! What a great way to add color to a room or to your holiday table :) Make a bunch and string them together as a garland, or put a bunch in a bowl, or in a hurricane glass in a bathroom or guestroom. You could also mail them (flat, before unfolding them ;)) to a friend as a fun "Merry Christmas" gift with quick instructions on how to unfold them. I decided to use holiday paper, but was thinking these would also be fun as everyday decorations with leftover scraps of scrapbooking paper or found/vintage paper. What you'll need: - Paper - enough to cut 15 strips - ½"x4" (7.5"x4") - 2 small brads - Ruler, 1/16" hole punch or pushpin to poke holes, exacto blade or rotary cutter and a cutting mat

autumn leaf bouquet I don’t know what it’s like in your neighborhood, but when I step outside here in Oakland, I sense it right away: Fall is in the air! I’m lucky enough to have a few turning trees on my street, so I don’t miss out entirely on the brilliant autumn colors I remember from growing up in NH. Speaking of brilliant autumn colors, I’m thrilled to share this stunning maple leaf rose bouquet DIY from a fellow Kate — clay, fiber and paper artist Kate Hust. Kate first learned how to make these a few years ago from a retired art teacher in her community, and now they’ve become an annual tradition when fall rolls around. Her instructor taught her to wrap the leaves really tight, so they looked like rose buds, but Kate has modified the technique a bit to suit her own tastes: She likes to find the really big leaves and make them with large open “petals.”

DIY Confetti Bowl Last weekend I made this DIY project with the boys, it's really easy to make and I can assure that you're gonna have fun! You'll need: confetti, one balloon, Mod Podge, a sponge and a small vase. Inflate your balloon, then insert it on to the vase so it's sturdier to work with. Add Mod Podge to the top half of the balloon with a sponge, then sprinkle confetti all over, you can remove your balloon from the vase and hold it to add the confetti on the sides. Let it dry and add another coat of glue and confetti, you will need to add several coats until you achieve a thick coat.

DIY: Wearable words When I was looking around for tutorials on making paper beads, I found some really striking "book beads" and accessories, now collected in this post. I understand (after all the browsing) that you can make really durable "beads" easily ... very little time, skill or money required. Woohoo! Who doesn't need more jewelery? ready to POP shower Since we met, my friend Allison and I have been wanting to throw a party together. Our friend circles don’t overlap very much, but we are both good friends with Brittany, a dear friend (who is also an amazing photographer!) and pregnant with their first little one. We knew as soon as she told us she was expecting that we would be throwing her a shower together. Our shower theme- “She’s Ready to Pop!” 15 artisanat de Noël à travers le web Nothing gets kids in the holiday spirit better than a good holiday craft. They teach the satisfaction of making things by hand, and build memories that will last a lifetime. Craft guru Rachel Faucett from Handmade Charlotte has scoured the web to serve up 15 Easy Christmas Crafts that deliver big results. This winter, what could be cooler than that?

Oh Snap! a camera and photography party I already mentioned that Jordan and I are nuts sometimes let our love of throwing parties together get the best of us. This shared hostessing bent is expressed in different ways- sometimes it means making elaborate Thanksgiving place settings, sometimes it means a windy, not-quite-finished Around the World party disaster (we haven’t put that story on the blog, but we should. Actually, it can be summed up in two words- party fail), and sometimes it means throwing two parties in eighteen days while I’m visiting the middleeast. Chapeaux de soleil et Wellie Boots: Glow maison dans l'obscurité la pâte à modeler After our fun story play with light, I thought we’d have a go at making some glow in the dark play dough! We made some cooked play dough & once it was cool I removed a third of the dough. (I placed the remaining dough in an airtight bag, ready for another day.) I added some glow in the dark paint from the Early Learning Centre & kneaded it into the dough. I repeated this process until the mixture became sticky. I left it for 10mins until the dough had dried a little, & the consistency was smooth.

Eat Drink Chic » Archives ...we've had our fair share of cold and foggy winter mornings. Inside our home, however, I've been attempting to ramp up the colour! My current decorating project- our living room- is progressing slowly at the moment. Not too long ago we incorporated an Indian sideboard, with which I am completely smitten! I would love to create an artwork for above, but I'm struggling to decide what to do. I'd like to keep it simple, as the room is already flush with colour and detail.
