36 Entertaining Apps That Are Actually Educational There are lots of education apps out there. Many are made specifically with one subject or topic in mind, and others can be useful in a broad range of subjects. We’ve looked at tons of different apps in a number of these categories in the past, but recently I stumbled across this list of ‘surprisingly educational apps’ and thought it was worth sharing. Some of these apps are aimed at being both fun and educational, others are geared specifically at teachers, and many just happen to have classroom applicability even though that wasn’t necessarily their design. Here's my daughter, who cannot yet read or write but knows what a search function is and is comfortable about moving about in virtual space. For some of us who didn't start life in the last five or ten years, what she's doing seems amazing and as much I would like to think my daughter is an amazing exception to the rule, she is not. Still in its infancy, games based learning will figure strongly in education systems of the future. Many educators and much of the wider community do not see the value of games. They see games as merely time-fillers or time-wasters when students should be learning how to spell. And how can an education project please such a diverse group of stakeholders?
