The Trouble with Epigenetics (Part 1) “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means”. The insightful Inigo Montoya. Epigenetics is a word that seems to have caught the public imagination. Achieving Goals by Improving Your Character Often a change in character is a crucial part of shifting your identity to become more congruent with your goals and intentions. For example, suppose you want to become more successful in your career, and you set a goal to reach a certain position. Maybe the main reason you haven’t yet reached that position is that your character attributes are out of sync with it. Perhaps you aren’t disciplined enough, confident enough, or resourceful enough to get there. Once you can identify the character qualities you’re missing, you can consciously develop them.

40 Belief-Shaking Remarks From a Ruthless Nonconformist If there’s one thing Friedrich Nietzsche did well, it’s obliterate feel-good beliefs people have about themselves. He has been criticized for being a misanthrope, a subvert, a cynic and a pessimist, but I think these assessments are off the mark. I believe he only wanted human beings to be more honest with themselves. He did have a remarkable gift for aphorism — he once declared, “It is my ambition to say in ten sentences what others say in a whole book.” Poster Downloads Classroom Resource Poster: Viral Diversity … run in the millions. Passion vs. Self-Discipline How important is passion as a success factor? Some people believe it’s the single most important factor, painting passion as the fuel that drives success. I disagree. Passion is simply an emotional state, and a temporary and unstable one at that. The reason passion gets so much credit is that it helps motivate action. And action is what generates results. Financial Emergency – Do THIS to win back your future (new Tony film below) Ever had a situation come crashing down around you while you’re wondering, “Now how am I going to fix this?” Of course you have. The question is: when something goes wrong – whether it’s a work situation, a relationship, or a financial matter how do you get yourself 100% PRESENT to address it? Because when human beings get stressed, we tend to hide. Then we create a story in our minds about why this bad stuff is happening, and why we can’t change it. You have to be SO careful – because this reactive mindset can creep up on you and prevent you from coming up with a great solution.
29 Semi-Productive Things I Do Online When I’m Trying to Avoid Real Work You don’t always have to work hard to be productive. Productivity can simply be the side effect of doing the right things. So here’s a list of 29 semi-productive things I do online when my mind is set on avoiding ‘real work.’ Ancestral Lines Evolutionary biologists use a cladogram, the treelike diagram of evolutionary branches or clades, to organize species into lines of evolutionary descent across time. Biologists use three types of evidence to deduce evolutionary connections: genetics, morphology, and geologic dating. (Behavior, normally a key part of evolutionary studies, can only be inferred in extinct species — for example, by examining the ecology in which the species flourished and the species adaptations for eating and locomotion.)
Self-Discipline: Acceptance The first of the five pillars of self-discipline is acceptance. Acceptance means that you perceive reality accurately and consciously acknowledge what you perceive. This may sound simple and obvious, but in practice it’s extremely difficult. Robbins-Madanes Training Neurolinguistic Programming encourages people toward new behavior by re-framing and shifting the context or meaning of one’s thoughts and feelings. Beyond NLP, Strategic Intervention Life Coaches can help provide a strategy to transform multiple relationships between individuals and create new opportunities for creating lasting change. Neurolinguistic Programming and Strategic Intervention (SI) Life Coaching Neurolinguistic Programming and SI share the same origin in the theoretical work of Gregory Bateson and the pioneering interventions of Milton Erickson. Where NLP came to focus on the neurolinguistic structures within the individual, the Strategic Approach focuses on the interactivity in relationships and the context of the person in their social group and in their life. Has the ‘Human Epoch’ Begun and is a Mass Extinction Near? Nature Published on December 30th, 2010 | by Michael Ricciardi As we near 2011, I know I must try to prepare myself for 2012, and the (next) wave of apocalyptic doom-saying that, according to the ‘fin-de-cyclists’, was predicted by the ancient Mayan mathematicians over 3 thousand years ago. Of course, they never predicted an End, per se, it’s just that they only extended their 260 day, cyclical calendar* to December 22, 2012 (near the winter solstice, a fitting day to be sure); they probably thought that was just plenty. It’s easy to dismiss such cataclysmic claims as being the product of mis-educated, or under-informed, mystical types, but I remind myself that science too has fanned its share of doom and gloom scenarios…Consider the Y2K hysteria of but a decade ago.
