Though lying within the Arctic Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude. Etymology[edit] Lofoten (Norse Lófót) was originally the old name of the island Vestvågøya. History[edit] Stockfish has been exported from Lofoten for at least 1,000 years "[T]here is evidence of human settlement extending back at least 11,000[ yrs in Lofoten, and] the earliest archaeological sites ... are only about 5,500 [yrs] old, at the transition from the early to late Stone Age." The town of Vågan (Norse Vágar) is the first known town formation in northern Norway. Lofotr was originally the name of the island of Vestvågøy only. April 30th, 2012 Everything is different today. Usually I would introduce you to a favorite recipe of mine with a short story, either about how I found it or what makes it so special. But today all you get is the raw, no-fuss recipe . Now how about that? I’m heading north to meet a bunch of blogging friends in Berlin – in particular at re:publica – shortly, therefor no story but this recipe, I won’t dwell on the fact that this salad is a mixture of all the salads we enjoyed at Case Vecchie, nor brag that it has the potential to become my favorite BBQ side for the summer. Oh and if you happen to be at re:publica, do stop by our food blog panel (with Inés, Stevan, Sebastian and Vijay) and say Hi! Wash and prep your salad ingredients: Discard any limp radicchio and chicory leaves, then cut into thin stripes.
