Top 100 Albums of 1986: Slicing Up Eyeballs’ Best of the ’80s — Part 7 We’ve reached September, which means it’s time to unveil the results of Part 7 of our year-long Best of the ’80s feature, a year-by-year poll of Slicing Up Eyeballs’ readers to determine the best albums of each year of the 1980s — and then, at the end of 2013, we’ll run a monster best-of-the-decade poll to crown the overall champs. Each poll continues to be bigger than the last, and 1986′s was no different, receiving nearly 53,000 total votes. All told, just over 300 different albums earned votes, both via the pre-selected ballot and write-ins. Once again, the Top 10 albums landed more than 1,000 votes apiece, with the records that made the Top 3 each scoring more than 2,000 — and, for the first time, the No. 1 record exceeding 3,000 votes. So thank you all for voting and sharing your thoughts. Take a look at the Top 100 list below — and feel free to offer your own take on the results, good or bad, in the comments below.

Music From Video Games You will get very nostalgic as I did listening to these old memories. I almost dropped a tear while listening no Pokemon Pallet Town theme song. So, did you get nostalgic after hearing some of your childhood classics? The times when you have played these games with your school friends or even at the university or at bars. Which one almost made you drop a tear? Math, Physics, and Engineering Applets Oscillations and Waves Acoustics Signal Processing Electricity and Magnetism: Statics Realistic Solo Orchestra Instruments with Keyswitch Articulations Performers who play orchestral instruments often use multiple playing styles throughout a piece of music. Therefore, knowing when to switch articulations is important for computer composers who want to achieve a realistic sound. Fortunately, many orchestral VSTi have a feature that helps us do this, called keyswitching. Step 1: Pattern

A Quick Look into the Science of Time It turns out Doctor Who was right: “Timey-wimey” is, indeed, a bit “wibbly-wobbly.” Scientists have confirmed, several times, that the speed at which time passes is both variable and malleable. We can speed it up. We can slow it down. In fact, you do so every day without knowing it. But before we explore the concept of time, we need to first explore the concept of gravity.

Guitar/Blues Exercises Exercise 1[edit] Here is a blues box in C Try using these partial seventh chords shown below as "stab" chords. Quite often when playing soul and jazz using the 12 bar blues form, guitarists will be expected to use "stab" chords to add to the rhythmic drive. You can try to play these on the backbeat (play the chord on the snare) or just as a "down-stroke" on each of the four beats in a bar. Note the fingering and the fact that the second finger stays on the same string. Teachers Are Awesome: This Physics Teacher Gives Students a Memorable Lesson About the Meaning of Life Ever have one of those teachers that made a tangible impact on you not just because their instruction was so amazing that you completely fell in love with the subject, but because they imparted unforgettable life lessons? Jeffrey Wright, a physics teacher at Kentucky's Louisville Male High School who's profiled in the above New York Times-produced video, is one such educator. The video was released just before the New Year, so if you missed it during all the hustle and bustle, you'll want to give it a view. You'll see that Wright's an incredible instructor—the passion he has for the subject, will make you wish he'd been your physics teacher, too—but, as he told the Times, "When you start talking about physics, you start to wonder, "What is the purpose of it all?'" Students started asking him "those ultimate questions," says Wright, "I wanted them to look at their life in a little different way—as opposed to just through the laws of physics—and give themselves more purpose in life."

21 Cool 3 Notes-Per-String Exercises to Rock On! Photo by Jsome1 Playing 3 notes per string exercises is something I do on a regular basis. I use them to warm up, to become a faster guitar player and to spice up my improvisation. 3 notes per string licks and scales are generally used for speed picking. Whenever you hear a guitar player playing these really fast terrifying licks, it’s probably a 3 notes per string lick. Paul Gilbert of Mr.Big is one of many great experts in this field.
