FILM SCORE MONTHLY
La-La Land has announced two new limited edition score CDs to be released next Tuesday, both focusing on the darker side of motherhood. The 1968 film version of Ira Levin's best-selling novel ROSEMARY'S BABY was a breakthrough in horror cinema -- a big-budget, A-list Paramount production that was a box-office smash and a critical hit, as well as one of the most faithful film adaptations ever made. The film gave Mia Farrow her star-making role as Rosemary Woodhouse, a Manhattan actor's wife who fears her unborn child may have been promised to a Satanic cult, and her superb performance was supported by an impressive cast including John Cassavetes, Maurice Evans, Sidney Blackmer, Charles Grodin, and Ruth Gordon in an Oscar-winning performance. Director Roman Polanski received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay, and brought along his favorite composer, Polish jazz great Christopher Komeda , whose haunting lullaby main theme (sung by Farrow herself) is a film music classic.
