A Small Apartment Design That Gives You Hidden Storage on December 8, 2010 Here is a 500 square foot small apartment that was designed for the owners not only to live in but also work out of and use as an office. The first thing you’ll notice is how incredibly clean and organized it looks. The designers incorporated seamless design throughout the place making storage look pretty much invisible. If you like the pine interiors of some of the Tumbleweed tiny houses that you’ve seen on here, then you’ll probably like this studio apartment too. And there are so many cool features… Below the upstairs bedroom loft, you get a walk in closet for storageOn the way up to the loft, you can use the stairs as camouflage storagePlants throughout give you that warm “homey” feelingProfessional millwork gives you lots of “invisible” storage, which makes the place feel clean and simple yet modern You can have a look at the photos right here thanks to photographers Frank Ouderman and Sean Karns. Underneath the bedroom lies a walk in closet. Related September 6, 2013

making buildings in foamboard - StumbleUpon miniature building construction in foamboard by Emmanuel Nouaillier Emmanuel Nouaillier shows how to scratch build and age miniature structures. This is will introduce my personal approach and techniques for scratch building and ageing buildings, pertaining to the typical northern French urban landscape of the 1940s and early 50s. I believe that a proper rendition of textures and adequate weathering of the different elements is important when making a miniature scene, where the optimal development of each small detail of a diorama becomes more a necessity to modellers who want to show, with utmost realism, models that are better detailed and weathered I will explain stage by stage in future articles how to create peculiar materials and elements and how to give the models ‘life’ while employing generic methods. Some of the ‘basic’ tools that I use to work the foam and give it some aspects and different alterations in scale. Forex may be an unfamiliar product to most modellers. Step 1 Step 2

Earthbag Building: Sandbag shelters of Nader Khalili I will show you what to me, is an exellent way to made architecture, how we can make, with few and natural resources, great space design, and at the same time, solve differents social problems, one of the principal motives and preocupations of modern architecture. I love this structural-design-solution. I have no words to describe it, besides, my English is very poor... The global need for housing includes millions of refugees and displaced persons - victims of natural disasters and wars. After extensive research into vernacular earth building methods in Iran, followed by detailed prototyping, he has developed the sandbag or 'superadobe' system. Barbed wire is laid between courses to prevent the sandbags from shifting and to provide earthquake resistance. The system employs the timeless forms of arches, domes and vaults to create single and double-curvature shell structures that are both strong and aesthetically pleasing. Khalili's educational philosophy has also continued to develop.

The Worlds Most Complex Architectural Columns - StumbleUpon Architect and programmer Michael Hansmeyer has undertaken a most ambitious project, designing an incredibly ornate and complex column with over 16 million individual facets! Hansmeyer has taken his initiative beyond the computer design phase and actually fabricated a full-scale 2.7 meter (8.8 ft) column made from stacked cardboard sheets. Check out the pics and information below for more details on this fascinating exploration. The project involves the conception and design of a new column order based on subdivision processes. An abstracted doric column is used as an input form to the subdivision processes. The input form is tagged to allow the subdivision process to distinguish between individual components. The result is a series of columns that exhibit both highly specific local conditions as well as an overall coherency and continuity. A full-scale, 2.7-meter high variant of the columns is fabricated as a layered model using 1mm sheet.

Remnants of the industrial age, gasometers all over the world have been demolished, or simply abandoned and left at the mercy of the elements. But the people of Vienna thought it would be a shame to just wipe these once useful structures off the face of the earth, and came up with a way to give them new meaning. At the beginning of the 20th century, Vienna’s gasometers were the largest in the world, each 70 meters tall and 60 meters across. There are currently 1,500 people living in this gas tank city within a city. Tiny Camper-Trailer Converts into Huge Mobile Motorhome Good building design, to paraphrase, can hide inside very small structures. At first glance it looks just like a full-sized luxury motor home – but the illusion of a large solid volume of spaces comes from a temporary tent-like structure. This layered enclosure folds out of a remarkably sleek, compact and modern-looking trailer attachment many times smaller than the full-scale living-and-dining area that it can convert into. It is aptly named Opera, perhaps for its visual similarity to the famous music hall in Sydney, by designer Axel Enthoven. Built-in cabinetry, hardwood floors, two beds, a toilet, hot and cold running water and LED lighting are all constructed as part of the core bottom structure, while the top tent area is crafted from thick canvas.
