Art Books We've been noticing a bit of a recent obsession with books. And no, not with reading the little nuggets of knowledge but using them as the canvas for art. This is like a massive step-up from idle marginalia doodling, or those picture books from school you used to scribble in. Jacqueline Rush Lee, Pod 2010 First up we have the artists with a knack for curling and manipulating the book pages. Next up we have Robert The and his book guns. There's the compromise of letting their child enjoy the sensation of holding a gun that can't hurt even the slowest of targets. Abelardo Morell injects beauty into the sad school memory that is your water bottle leaking all over a textbook you actually need. Finally, Brian Dettmer's book sculpture is perhaps the most intricate forms of book art we're revelling in today. Now isn't it time to get your tools and neglected books out? We've been noticing a bit of a recent obsession with books. Next up we have Robert The and his book guns.

100 Ways To Develop Your Mind This weeks Sunday Siesta has been postponed as I have been working all weekend on this article. It’s my longest article ever at over 4500 words but I think it was worth the time and the effort. I have been resisting doing this post for a while now. I was originally inspired to do this by Dragos Roua who wrote a great post 100 Ways to Live a Better Life and who was inspired by Mike King in this great post 100 Ways To Be A Better Leader who was inspired by Armen Shirvanian: 100 Ways to Show Boldness who was inspired by the maniac who started it all Luciano Passuello and his post Tackling Any Issue With A List Of 100 So here I am with 100 Ways to Develop Your Mind 1. If there’s one thing that will change your thoughts quicker than anything else, it’s facing your fears. 2. A lot of people have difficulty in standing up for themselves. 3. It’s great to be silent for just a little while. 4. 5. 6. 7. Building self discipline is a great way to take control of your mind and your thoughts. 8. 9. 10.
The Don'ts in Life The Lesson of the Monkeys | Jason Wells I was first told of this experiment* by a former work colleague, and later discovered this illustration of it. It’s both illuminating and disturbing. There is a clunky word that describes this phenomenon: filiopietism, or the reverence of forebears or tradition carried to excess. But I prefer another term for it: the tragic circle. The lesson is as obvious as it is important: question everything. * Stephenson, G. 25 new great quotes! 19 pictures which scream NO EXCUSES Probably one of the only times I think saying, “No” is alright, as in No Excuses. No Excuses must be one of the strongest things you can tell yourself, because it wakes you up and lets you know what you’re actually saying to yourself… … to hold yourself back. Nothing more, nothing less. However legitimate, reasonable, excusable, tired, bored, unmotivated, lazy, partied out, discouraged, listless, lethargic, stupid, slack or whatever the hell you are, guess what? Boom. No excuses to not smile and be happy Age is not an excuse bro! Jung Da Yeon: Age 43. No excuses to not make ART! No excuses to not make beautiful music No excuses to not coexist peacefully No excuses to not get along No excuses to get your ass to exercise No excuses to not be happy with all the shit you own No excuses to not be thankful No excuses to not move on with life No excuses for the life you own Being fat is not an excuse Support here on Patreon!

I want to learn to crochet! – Milomade This week’s Tutorial Tuesday is a fabulously simple (if you know how to crochet) tutorial on how to make your own slippers. I saw this image and was green with envy! They are so cute and I want to make myself some now! One problem I foresee is that I don’t know how to crochet. I’m a little bit obsessed with the colour green at the moment and combining this with other bright colours, so the fact that these slippers are green with a red trim, makes me want to make them even more! I’ve tried to crochet in the past and a few friends have tried to teach me, but it just doesn’t make sense like knitting does – in my opinion it’s not hard to go wrong or get lost when you’re knitting – but with crochet I never know how many rows I’ve done, or how many stitches or what stitch to use either. You can see the final slippers and the entire tutorial on the Zoom Yummy blog here. Enjoy!
Never Talk to the Police | Quick Hitts By Dave Hitt on Mar 31, 2010 in Featured, Police State What’s the best response when a cop asks you something? Silence, or a short, polite non-answer. Shut up. Just. You should be polite and calm whenever dealing with any armed person. These videos made the rounds about a year ago. In the first part of the first video a fast talking law professor gives you detailed reasons why you should never talk to the police. This is part two, where a former police officer fills in the details. Here are some practical examples of how to legally preserve your rights in an encounter with police: Ok, after all that heavy duty stuff, we need a breather. you knew i was going to make one. they are all over pinterest....(i still am not signed up for pinterest because i don't have time for one more thing but browsing is fun!) so we made one. i took a box of 64 crayons and took out the blacks and browns.i used another small box and doubled up on the good colors i liked and hot glued them to the top of our canvas. then we turned our blow dryer to hot on high. not long after you set the hair dryer by the crayons they get shiny and then the wax starts to melt! and it dries really quickly too. seriously. what could be happier than this?? GREAT project. loved it today is the first FULL day with ALL my kids in ALL day school.yeah...i am smiling as i type that. it's good. it's quiet. i am rockin' it. removing wallpaper.....making code for craft weekend stuff.....doing my hair....going to lunch..... it's all good. hooray for school!
