Origami-klänningar – Origami dresses Via How About Orange hittade jag den här pedagogiska YouTube-beskrivningen på hur man viker en origami-klänning av papper. /Via How About Orange I found this great YouTube tutorial on how to fold an origami paper dress. Packaging Templates I’m not sure how I discovered this awesome collection of packaging templates but I’m glad I did! Some professor or student at a japanese univeresity was nice enough to share all their packaging templates with the world! These are a few of my favorites and you can see all of them on their website. Every situation is covered! You sell Bon Bons? They have a box for that! P.S. stumbleupon

Write. Click. Scrapbook. Hello and sorry for the delay! Snow days means kids home which means life take a little detour around the todo list! Yesterday we were chatting about making something portable that we can use to help keep up engaged and successful with our resolutions. I knew immediately that my best chance for success lay (lie?) in using a notebook I could keep with me. When it comes to portable notebooks, my hands down favorite are mini composition notebooks. Reasons I love them. They are cheap. I thought about breaking out my actual paper products to decorate the covers, but I didn't want embellishments that would get tattered or broken, so I opted for a digi cover. Here are my two books. I have them divided into section and made lists inside of things to get done. I spend a lot of time in the car driving my kids to their activities. Three things before I go. First, in case you are a pen lover like me, I have found these pens from Jet Pens to be my favorites for keeping in my purse.

Paper Lanterns Looking for instructions on how to make paper lanterns? My husband designed an easy template for making paper lanterns in a cute round shape. They look a bit oriental, don’t you think? These “lanterns” are purely decorative and aren’t designed to have a lamp inside them, but they do make great festive decorations. By the way, if you want to learn how to make a lantern that you can put a lamp inside of, then check out my instructions for making paper star lanterns . They make great homemade gifts to post in the mail because they can pack flat. Instructions: How to Make Paper Lanterns Before we get started, here’s a little cartoon to give you the big-picture of how everything fits together. Equipment pretty paper or card-stock printer scissors glue or double sided tape needle and thread You’ll also want to download my round paper lantern template . Print the template onto your paper or card-stock, making sure that you print onto the blank side! Variation: Halloween Lanterns

{Etsy vs. Big Cartel :: the business of handmade} Update: Since writing this post Big Cartel has now come out with a 300-item plan. It’s $29.99 and sounds like a great alternative — some of you had mentioned that 100 items wouldn’t be enough and so you’re sticking with Etsy. Well… things have changed, and the limit is now 300. Also — Etsy now offers coupon codes at checkout, something that used to cause Etsy sellers a lot of frustration. Disclaimer: This post is my opinion and is based on my experiences only. My background on selling handmade: I opened my very first handmade shop in November 2008, and that was with Etsy. My friend, Lindsey @ The Pleated Poppy helped bring me to Big Cartel. I believe I had over 320 sales through Etsy when I switched to Big Cartel. What made me want to switch? There were many, many reasons, and for me the choice was clear: If I wanted to have a successful business I needed to move to a site like Big Cartel. What is the difference between Etsy and Big Cartel? Before we break them down, take a look these… Etsy…

Newspaper Gift Bags When I bought something at a store recently, the clerk handed me my purchase in a bag made from a newspaper. I liked it very much and had to make some more—thus today's DIY recycled newspaper project: gift bags made from the Wall Street Journal. You can vary the dimensions, of course, but here's what I used to create a bag that's 5" tall, 4.5" wide, and 3" deep. Stack two sheets of newspaper on top of each other. Cut out a rectangle that's 15.5" wide and 8.25" tall. Fold a flap 1.25" down from the top. Cut two pieces of cardstock or chipboard to 4.25" x 1", then glue them on the widest two panels just under the top fold. Put glue on the outside of the 0.5" tab and bring the left-most panel over to form the body of the bag, aligning the cut edge of the panel with the folded edge of the flap. Upend the bag so the 2" flap is now up. Put glue on both flaps and fold them inward to form the bottom of the bag.

Elise Blaha :: enJOY it.: small business I'd love to introduce a new feature around here... "three things I know to be true." This is the tippy-top of the list of things I would share with a new small business owner (or in future posts, with new home-owner, mom, bride, newlywed, blogger, etc) who's looking for advice. Obviously, with everything, THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME, but that's what blogging IS. It's sharing ONE experience and hopefully resonating with readers. So here we go, small business owners, this is what I know to be true. A simple website you can easily update is worth more than a fancy design. If you're losing sleep over a freelance gig, it's not the right fit. RELATED : how can you prevent this? Everyone starts at zero. This week on my podcast, ELISE GETS CRAFTY, I am talking with blogger, designer and scrapbooker, Ali Edwards, about the importance of taking creative field trips (though we get totally sidetracked and end up talking about scheduling creative time and pros and cons of the Internet too.)

Rolled Paper Flowers Welcome to flower week – five days of simple and delightful flower projects. I could probably do three weeks of flowers because there are so many different ways to create them, but I’ve limited it to five of my current favorites. Before we get started, let me make a few disclaimers: 1. 2. 3. Okay, so let’s begin. Here’s what you’ll need: :: paper {either cover or text weight} :: florist wire :: scissors, pencil, glue gun STEP ONE: cut irregular circle This circle is approximately 8 inches, but you can do any size you wish. STEP TWO: cut spiral Start at the outside edge and cut in a spiral fashion to the center. I like a sort of bumpy shape so that the petals end up a bit irregular If you aren’t so sure about your cutting skills, feel free to draw your spiral before cutting. To add a little interest to my bouquet, I used a variety of yellow scrapbook papers {my favorite is that yellow dot} STEP THREE: roll your blossom start at the outside edge and coil tightly STEP FOUR: release coil

Creative Scrappers Flying Pigs My first ever DIY post on the blog was this Little Paper Bird Mobile - and it's actually still my most popular post to date! Sadly all of my paper birds got lost when I was moving house (I was definitely more than a bit sad!) so I decided to make some more paper friends... How to Make a Flying Pig Mobile You will need: Some light-weight card, pretty paper, white craft foam, glue, needle and thread. 1// Draw the outline of a pig on to your cardboard (you could use an image from the internet to trace or just draw your own). 2// Cut the pig shape out and use it as a template to draw out the shape again on to decorative paper. 3// Make another template for some wings and cut them out of white craft foam. 4// Glue the wings on to the pigs body and bend them back on themselves to give them a bit of shape. 5// Attach a length of thread to your pig so it can fly! Aren't they sweet?
