A User’s Guide to Fabulous Friendships A good friend is a connection to life – a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world. - Lois Wys Editor’s note: This is a guest post from Kelly Rigby of SHE-POWER.COM. In our teens and twenties, our friendships are everything. They define who we are, what we do and even what we buy. At the time, we assume it will always be this way. This is not necessarily what we want. Choose friends wisely. Do not be fooled by glamour and street cred. Treat others how you want to be treated. Personally, I don’t think you can go past honesty, loyalty and integrity as a foundation for choosing friends. Make time. Don’t fall into the habit of thinking I’ll “try and find the time”. The easiest way to make time for friends is to organize future gatherings while you are all together. Have fun. Hold onto rituals. “A friend can tell you things you don’t want to tell yourself.” - Frances Ward Weller Accept people the way they are. Respect boundaries.

The 10 Types of Friends | bomza! Friends or “friends”, that is the question. While looking at my current count of 52 friends on Facebook, I felt a little surprised at how come I have got so many friends in my list when my initial intention was to only add those whom I really want to add. Then I started mentally categorizing them into the different types of friends, and here’s the list. Type #1: The “we work together/we’re classmates” Friends These people are your friends because you work or go to school with them and happen to get along well together. You try to know a little bit about them so that you don’t have to always only talk about work/school related stuff, or get awkward silences. You will most likely have their names in your cell phone because you have called them once or twice to coordinate social events, but you wouldn’t call them out of the blue “just to say hi”. a) Work b) Homework c) “How’s your new company?
