News - Dec 17, 2012 The GLOBE at Night program is an international citizen-science campaign to raise public awareness of the impact of light pollution. The worldwide campaign invites citizen-scientists to record the brightness of the night sky by visually matching the appearance of a constellation like Orion with star maps of progressively fainter stars or using meters to obtain more precise measurements. Measurements are submitted to a central website by computer or smart phone. From these data an interactive map of all worldwide observations is created. There are five GLOBE at Night campaigns in 2013: January 3 - 12, January 31 - February 9, March 3 - 12, 2013, March 31 - April 9, and April 29 - May 8. Comments Please log-in to post comments

Historique[modifier | modifier le code] « Crowdsourcing is an online, distributed problem-solving and production model[7].

Next year Australia’s national capital Canberra is celebrating its centenary. Many national scientific institutions are based in Canberra, including Mount Stromlo Observatory which was established in 1911. The Australian Academy of Science was founded in 1954 to recognise outstanding contributions to science. Canberra’s centenary will be a springboard to celebrate the history, development and progress of scientific endeavour in Australia from the period of the heroic exploration of Antarctica to areas of cutting edge research such as nanotechnology and biotechnology and the recently awarded Square Kilometre Array for Western Australia.
