10 Things in School That Should Be Obsolete

Looking around most school facilities — even those that aren’t old and crumbling — it’s obvious that so much of it is obsolete today, and yet still in wide use. 1. COMPUTER LABS. It's Time to Disrupt the System - Getting Smart by Alison Anderson - For as long as I have been involved in education, the focus for finding the key to fixing education has always been about providing professional development for the teachers and administrators. The philosophy is top-down with the intent that knowledge will eventually trickle down to benefit the students. But, during one of the two ISTE Ignite sessions, I listened to the well respected “education disruptionist,” Will Richardson, sum up 19 of his bold beliefs about education in exactly five minutes. In the last few years, technology has invaded, like it or not, and the school experience is shifting faster than ever. I live in a state where this approach seems to be generally moving very slow and NOT always in the right direction. It’s Time to Shift Our Focus It’s time for students to take control of their own learning instead of waiting for the technology to be handed to them! It’s Time to Try New Things Our kids have proven they want and are ready to use technology to function.

Bretford EDU 2.0 3 Ways to Use Wordle for More Than Fluff The visual word clouds created by Wordle and other word cloud services on the web aren’t anything new, they’ve been around for a few years. However, like a great many newer web 2.0 tools, I quite often see a lot of ineffective use of these tools in the classroom. That’s not to say I think the teachers themselves are ineffective, in fact it’s usually the most tech savvy and educational effective teachers that are using tools like Wordle. However, as even these tech savvy teachers keep up with the changing landscape of educational tools, not enough time is often available to closely examine a new website to carefully dissect what the tool is capable of, and how it might be used most effectively. Too often a larger number of teachers get caught up in the “wow” factor of some great new ability of the read/write web (does anyone still use that term anymore?), and immediately starts working the new-found website into a class project.

Salut i bits !
