History[edit] Telling a Story- Creating Poems with Animoto  There is a growing list of incredible sites and tools to give wings to our and our students’ creativity in telling stories. These stories can be poems, voice, text, video, music and so much more, only limited by our own creativity. Last year I concentrated on exploring tools such as Interactive Storytelling for English Exams How much can we actually teach students for exams without being exam-oriented? Wherever we go in professional development the reality of teaching to the test always crops up as something to avoid or get around somehow. Yet, we want our students to achieve high standards and we want them to have qualifications. For me, it’s a matter of teaching BEYOND the test. ********************************************************** Exposing them to real English before they ever see exam-type structures, whilst getting them used to such structures in fun, stress-free environments is a great way to raise competency well before exam deadlines loom ahead. This is a topic I wish to expand upon and develop through my blog in upcoming features.

Curation As An Emerging Skillset How to become a curation king / queen. Traditionally, a curator researches and puts together a collection which speaks to a narrative and / or serves a larger idea in art galleries and / or museums. In the current digital habitat, all can participate in this activity, so the challenge is honing the skills and leveraging the tools. Why?

Social Media Timeline Last week, Dr. Sean Carton, the Chief Creative Officer of our web division (idfive), posted the following Social Media Timeline graphic at the idfive blog - attentionscan.com. Sean created the graphic as part of his preparation for speaking at the 2009 eduWEB conference in Chicago. Sean wrote: "It's definitely NOT to scale and I'm sure that plenty of people could quibble with what I chose to include as examples of "social media," (I define "social media" as "technologies that facilitate conversations") but I think it provides a pretty interesting overview of where this stuff came from and how long it's been around."

i have no idea how i got iinvolved but nice to see the real people on here. have found a few of these useful discussions but they are about the whateversite it's for an it is a bit random by michaelgoff Mar 21

cryz: I was replying to michaelgoff who had asked for clarification on an earlier comment I left on this pearl. Somewhat confusing to me that comments on a Pearl don't go to anyone in particular. When I heard from michaelgoff, I assumed he was the original owner of the pearl, but now I'm thinking maybe notice of a comment goes to everyone with a copy of the pearl?? Not what I expected, but I can see times when that would be a Good Thing. I wish the comment box gave options for being more selective in addressing a comment. Anyhow, nice to make your acquaintance. Drew (rdrewd) by rdrewd Mar 16

oops. My pearltrees acquaintance Charmainezoe has a copy of your pearl, twice, in her curation tools pearltree. I thought I was commenting to her, just trying to help her tidy up her tree. Your name looks familiar to me. Were you ever with Bell Labs or AT&T? Drew by rdrewd Mar 16

i'm not sure i understand the comment. I certainly have not suggested that my random collection of sites i would like to recall is either well pruned or comprehensive. I am always looking for new and interesting things in similar areas if you have suggestions, and i'm pleased if this random collection helps someone find somehing they end up loving. by michaelgoff Mar 16

I think you have this pearl duplicated in this tree. The number of tools is troubling. And there are more! stumble-upon. Delicious. Or is there a line netween them and content curation? by rdrewd Mar 16

Storify allows users to embed social media into a story that they create. They simply specify a headline and summary, then start to create the story using a combination of social media and additional text that is added for narrative flow or for context. Media can include tweets, blogs, videos, pictures etc. Users who have contributed content can be notified that their information is included in a story. They may then share the story, thus propagating it further. by isotope Jan 31
