5 Hands-On and Fun Ways to Teach Telling Time It’s one of those skills kids are so proud to say they’ve mastered: “I know how to tell time!” Of course, it’s easier these days with digital clocks, but children still need to learn to read analog versions too. Try these fun interactive activities, and your students will be telling time in no time flat. 1. Classroom Escape Room (Review Game) | <!--Can't find substitution for tag [blog.Title]--> I am obsessed with escape rooms! They are so much fun! I wish that I could do one every day. Before my state test I decided that I wanted to do a fun review game for my kids and decided to try my hand at an escape room. Step 1: The days leading up to the escape room I rolled a suitcase around with me (You will see why) Step 2: I broke the students into four groups Step 3: I created a newspaper article that informed students that I was taking over the world and handed one out to each group. Step four: I hid a card in my miniature file cabinet that said, "Don't just stand there in limbo, take a look in the classroom window." Step five: The first set of clues to decipher that opened the Word Lock was hidden behind a book in the window. Step six: Inside of Lock #1was the POV clues Step seven: Inside of Lock #2 was a set of UV flashlights and 4 pieces of seemingly blank paper. Step eight: Inside the lock box was four ziplock bags with puzzle pieces and a short story for each of the groups.

Fluency Practice Passages Why Use Fluency Practice Passages Fluency is a key foundational skill that helps students read complex text with greater understanding. When students read with accuracy and expression at an appropriate reading rate, their fluency supports their comprehension. How to Use Fluency Practice Passages Passages are provided from Levels F to Z. Timed Reading Procedures You will need: Two copies of the assessment passage—one for the student and one for the instructor Stopwatch or clock Pencil Clipboard (so students will not see what you are writing) Administer a one-minute reading, starting the stopwatch when the student begins the first word of the passage (student will not read titles). During the reading, resist the urge to correct mistakes. Follow along on your copy word by word with your pencil. Timed Reading Scoring Count the total words the student reads in one minute using the words-per-line totals listed in the margin. Example:
Self-grading test using Google Forms. Tutorial. Once you created a form, Google Drive will automatically create a spreadsheet with the same name. This is where you will find all responses to your questions. Also, you are going to set up all calculations here. In the Responses spreadsheet you will see that every question is placed in a separate column. There is also an additional column with date and time when the quiz answers have been submitted. Select the entire row 2 (your answer keys). Then I insert another column next to the student's name column. Click anywhere in column B. Then go to Insert > Column Right This is where I will record the correct answers - so I give it this title. Then I answered the quiz one more time (you see "test" for student's name). Click on the cell C3 (as shown) or, if you have a different structure, the corresponding cell (column: Correct answers, row: test) Now, this is where it can get a little more difficult if you are not fluent with spreadsheets and the formulas. This is an "IF" formula. Isn't that nice?!!
