You've Got Meow! Laura was already up; I woke up, shaved, brushed my teeth, then headed to the kitchen for a little something to eat. As I passed our front door I heard a loud peeping noise, I assumed it was a bird and almost kept walking, but ... it didn't sound like any of the bird noises I usually heard in the morning. I made for the front door. No, this sound was coming from the garage. Suddenly, I flashed back to the morning I had to clean up the feathery remains of a "gift" one of the strays had left for us and leaped to the conclusion that "Oh, my god, one of them has a baby bird in the garage!" I darted for the garage door prepared to come to the rescue, only to find two wet meeping furry things, not far from a purring Miss Mew beaming at me from her little bed.

A Map of the Cat I’ve been working on a particular project for a long, long time - I’ve mentioned it here occasionally. The project is, at its heart, a translation of a certain multiple-path story from Japanese to English. The first time I went through the story, I relied almost completely on machine translation, and didn’t get much of the nuance the writer put into it – but even then, there was a particular phrase that struck me.
