Internet Map your Guide to Popular Webistes Online Today as I was going through my feeds I came across this great web tool called Internet Map and thought it might interest you as well. Internet Map, as its name suggests, is a Google Map of the 350.000 largest websites in the world. Websites are included in circles in the map. The size and visibility of each circle corresponds with the popularity of the website it contains . For instance, the biggest circle that is clearly visible in the interface of the map is of Facebook, the surrounding ones have Tumblr, Yahoo, Google, etc. One of the coolest things about Internet Map is that it lets users easily use the search functionality to look for and find the most popular websites in individual countries.

The No.1 App for Every Teacher…. | syded Not all apps are created equal. The first version of Explain Everything was good. The second version is outstanding. As an educator my life revolves around learning, organisation, workflow and school requirements. At its base level Explain Everything is an interactive whiteboard into which you can insert text, pictures and videos. An existing presentation can be imported into the app from a Dropbox or GoogleDrive account. Similarly a teacher can record anything that happens in class, via the camera, and then annotate/comment on the work. (courtesy of Digital First Ohio State) As you can see from the ‘how to’ video there are a number of different functions in the new version of Explain Everything that lend themselves to the classroom. Explain Everything can also have an impact on assessment. This process is complemented by the recording of video to illustrate a point and the use of that video, annotation and commentary to highlight key areas to enhance learning. Minecraft in the classroom Minecraft is a down loadable game from the Internet that costs around $40 for one license for a PC, there is a free iPad app (very basic, can’t save but good for learning on) or a $7.49 app for iPad (Phoebe assures me it is not as good as the online version but not bad). What is Minecraft? Wikipedia explains Minecraft as an open world game that has no specific goals for the player to accomplish, allowing players a large amount of freedom in choosing how to play the game. The game world is essentially composed of rough 3D objects—mainly cubes—that are arranged in a fixed grid pattern and represent different materials, such as dirt, stone, various ores, water, and tree trunks. Players can gather these material blocks and place them elsewhere, thus allowing for various constructions. I’ve actually never played Minecraft but we do have an account that Phoebe and Lucy use. If you where looking to engage students in learning I think this would be an ideal tool. But also consider:

Using an iPad as a Digital Microscope « iPads in Education 5 Nov We have a set of microscopes from the 1970s that are still in great shape but certainly don’t have the ability to capture images. Digital microscopy is an excellent teaching tool for many reasons. 1. The large screen allows for the student and the teacher to view the same image at the same time. It is a lot easier to teach students about what they are looking at if you both can see the screen at the same time. 2. While the images are far from perfect they are much better then most teacher expect. See the examples of the lab below. Like this: Like Loading... Tags: camera, iPad, microscopes
