debbieinshape When I made the decision to go self-hosted, I read a lot about SEO and on how I could benefit from it. In the middle of all the information I got in the beginning, I just dropped SEO all-together. Deep inside I hoped it was going to disappear and I would never had to think about it. Unfortunately, this is not the way things work. SEO remains strong and those making use of it are having great results. Note that SEO is not for everyone. But if you are curious to decipher the “mystery” of the SEO, please join me in this first Hangout on Air from the Smashing Series: Before moving on to the presentation below, may I ask you to fill in the feedback form from this Hangout on Air, please? One can always hope for going viral which makes things a little easier. Search Engine Optimization Why? Not all posts have to be SEO-oriented Tools

Home to Great Ideas in Personality One-on-One Meetings That Work - Agenda Template Download Early in my career, my boss recommended that I meet regularly with each of my direct reports. He knew it would both improve their productivity and improve my relationship and influence with my team members. I thought it was a great idea! And since I wanted the time to be as productive as possible, I spent weeks trying to figure out how to structure the meetings and when to schedule them. Looking back – I wasted a lot of valuable time trying to set up and agenda for the “perfect” meeting. So I did the one thing that I knew would get me going. Purpose I spent some time thinking about my purpose for the meetings. To provide a structured time to coach my team members through the four components of effective leadership (life planning, business vision, business planning, and priority management) and to fulfill one of my core convictions – people are valuable and are worth developing. Regular time Next, I scheduled biweekly, 30 minute appointments for each of my direct reports. Be prepared Focus

The red dress effect Cold weather may influence what colors women wear, but only during a certain time of the month, according to research published in 2013 and 2014. The research showed that during cold weather, "Women are more likely to wear shades of red and pink on days when they're ovulating," said Jessica Tracy, who authored the research and is an associate professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia in Canada. Although it's not clear why women may do this, some researchers think it comes down to sex appeal. Cold-blooded murder Romantic movies Prisoner's dilemma

People Who Can't Control Themselves Control The People Around Them Part 2 "People who can't control themselves control the people around them. When you rely on someone for a positive reflected sense of self, you invariably try to control him or her." Recently I wrote about the importance of emotional autonomy. (available here .) Emotional Autonomy: The key to interdependence I'm sure some readers asked themselves, "Where does healthy interdependence fit in?" Interdependence as a concept has been around for years, but it is badly misunderstood. Emotional autonomy is the key to interdependence. Therapists have their own mistaken ideas about interdependence. Some therapists advocate what they call "co-regulation"--partners regulating each other's insecurities, anxieties, and emotions as a primary activity in their relationship. Advocates of "co-regulation" don't realize couples automatically regulate each other out of necessity. "Co-regulation" advocates say partners in good relationships only regulate their mate for his or her benefit.

The New Rules of Social-Media Etiquette -- The Cut Where are you the funniest, smartest, most Facetuned version of yourself? This week, the Cut explores the complexities, vanities, and pitfalls of self-presentation online. Social media as it’s now understood has existed for less than a decade. (Facebook only opened itself to the general public in 2006.) In that time, the rules governing appropriate and inappropriate behavior — and creepiness and kindness — and generosity and cruelty — have changed radically. Now that the world has, more or less, accepted that terms like “social-media professional” are here to stay, the etiquette has changed, too. In honor of the Cut’s “Our Selfies, Ourselves” week, we’re revisiting six rules of social-media etiquette that have changed significantly over the years. Old Rule: As recently as 2013, wedding hashtags were considered gauche. New Rule: Today, refusing to use a hashtag is the true mark of desperation. New Rule: Feigning ignorance is ridiculous and inconvenient. New Rule: This one is tricky.

Emotion First published Mon Feb 3, 2003; substantive revision Mon Jan 21, 2013 No aspect of our mental life is more important to the quality and meaning of our existence than emotions. They are what make life worth living, or sometimes ending. So it is not surprising that most of the great classical philosophers—Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Descartes, Hobbes, Hume—had recognizable theories of emotion, conceived as responses to certain sorts of events of concern to a subject, triggering bodily changes and typically motivating characteristic behavior. I begin by outlining some of the ways that philosophers have conceived of the place of emotions in the topography of the mind, particularly in their relation to bodily states, to motivation, and to beliefs and desires, as well as some of the ways in which they have envisaged the relation between different emotions. 1. How do emotions fit into different conceptions of the mind? 2. 3. This variety has led to a good deal of confusion. 4.
How to Memorize Things Quickly People like to joke that the only thing you really “learn” in school is how to memorize. As it turns out, that’s not even the case for most of us. If you go around the room and ask a handful of people how to memorize things quickly, most of them will probably tell you repetition. That is so far from the truth, it’s running for office. Before we start, you need to establish something: are you an auditory, visual, or experiential learner? Step 1: Preparation To optimize your memorization session, pay close attention to which environment you choose. Next, start drinking some tea. As we get older, toxic chemicals will damage our neurons and synapses, leading to memory loss and even Alzheimer’s. Step 2: Record What You’re Memorizing This is especially useful if you’re trying to memorize information from a lecture. Step 3: Write Everything Down Before you start trying to recall everything from memory, write and re-write the information. Step 4: Section your notes. Step 9: Take a break
7 Habits Of Exceptionally Resilient People | Forever Conscious Resilient people don’t give in to anger or despair when faced with a setback. Instead, they tap into a greater purpose to bounce back stronger than ever. “They find resilience by moving towards a goal beyond themselves, transcending pain and grief by perceiving bad times as a temporary state of affairs,” says Hara Estroff Marano, editor at large of Psychology Today. Highly resilient people know how to bend to inevitable failures and tragedies and not break. 1. Resilient people make a habit of being persistent. 2. Resilient people believe that they are fully capable of carrying out their purpose, says Hill, which allows them to rebound from setbacks. 3. Just because successful people are self-confident and can rely on themselves doesn’t mean that they isolate themselves from others. 4. Resilient people understand that frustrating situations, failures, and tragedies are inevitable parts of life, and they’re able to move on because they don’t ignore or repress their pain. 5. 6. 7.
