What Multitasking Does To Our Brains I can definitely understand how focusing on one task at a time allows you to be more productive. However, I also believe that you can benefit from taking a break after ~an hour of working on something, and then doing something else. Making progress on multiple different tasks in this way provides a similar feeling of high productivity, but also allows you to get a feel for exactly how much work you have on your plate.

10 Useful Google Chrome Extensions to Help You Stay Focus And Be More Efficent It seems like there is a never ending fight to manage time. I am sure everyone chasing the golden calendar at the end of the rainbow has read an article or two stating how to manage time. Clean Your Keurig Coffee Maker with Vinegar and a Toothbrush It's honestly not a bad machine. And it isn't subpar coffee for the most part. 1)If you want a higher coffee quality, perhaps your own custom blend, or maybe you don't want to spend the premium on the K-Cups: you still can use the Keurig! You can buy $10 reusable K-Cup size adapters that let you fill up with your own coffee, some even make the Keurig spread the water more evenly so ALL the coffee gets used. If you don't want to spend the $10 extra on top of the machine, you can also make a DIY one on the cheap but it's going to need replacement every couple of uses (google). You still get the quick and easy "press-of-a-button" coffee with your own blends without the premium K-Cups. The only other time that the Keurig machine is useless is if you're really critical of coffee that the method of brew itself is critical, such as a traditional coffee press. 2)If your into tea, that is also an option. I mean, I don't use my $100 Keurig machine JUST for this purpose.

Time management : yet another todo-list alternative | Any Ideas - Pour les chefs de projet malins I explained the limitations of the todo-list system in the previous article about time management introduction and todo-list limitations . You are not about to discover a brand new way of managing your time but maybe another way of dealing with all your tasks. Using your calendar as your todo-list The calendar is usually used by people to write appointments with other people like meetings, business lunches, workshops and so on. A common representation of the calendar is based on columns, one for each day of the week : There are many softwares which provide a calendar tool : Microsoft Outlook, KOrganizer, Evolution, Google Agenda, … As long as they are easy to use for you, with drag’n'drop to move tasks, it’s ok. Making an appointment with yourself Making appointments with colleagues, customers is quite normal but what if you make an appointment with yourself to work on a particular task ? Fine ! From todo-list to calendar : how to free your time Done ! Day-to-day usage of the calendar

Thank You in Advance In email, letters, and memos that include a request, writers often end with one of these statements: "Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter." "Thank you in advance for any help you can provide." In comments on another blog post this week, one writer said she hated "Thank you in advance" and another wanted to know why the phrase deserves hatred. People hate the phrase for a couple of reasons. "Thank you in advance" also suggests that the reader will not be thanked later on, after fulfilling the request. Of course, people who write "Thank you in advance" do not intend to be presumptuous or thoughtless. "Thank you for considering my request." You can also sound polite by simply omitting the "in advance": "Thank you for any help you can provide." I began with the example "Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter." Thank you in advance for avoiding the above phrases. Just kidding. LynnSyntax Training

The Art of Stretching Time Your rating: None Average: 4 (1 vote) The ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. While chronos refers to the time of physics or linear-sequential time (such as that of the clock "alarming" you out of bed in the morning), kairos refers to a moment or period of undetermined time in which something meaningful happens (of course only you can determine what is meaningful to you!). Let's just say that chronos is 'physical' or 'clock' time, and kairos is 'metaphysical time' that transcends the limitations of time and space as we know it. So before you begin wondering how this has anything to do with you, your life, or your business, let me say that as a super busy soul-preneur, I have learned to tune into kairos time as a potent way of leveraging the same 24 hour day we all have, to create more breathing space for my spirit and soul. So here are a few pointers to get you flowing with kairos time rather than running a race against "clock" time. 1. 2. 3. 4. Author's Bio:

Easy memory techniques The House Tour Method of memorisation is something that I learned about several years ago, and is a small part of what Derren Brown calls the Loci System. As I mentioned in the orange box above, you really do need to have got to grips with the Linking - or Chain - system, and its visualisation techniques. As the name of the system describes, you will need to know the layout of your own home. Now, connect the first item on your 'Things to remember' list to the front door. You are about to take a tour of your home. When you want to recall the list, imagine standing at your front door, and allow your mind to remember the association you made. Is Everything I Do Actually Killing Me? It is true, everything you do IS going to kill you somehow. Everyone dies. Simple fact. Everyone dies. Nobody lives forever. That hasn't changed in the recorded history of life on this planet. Back when we started out, humans didn't last very long. As we started to bunch up and live in large groups very close to one another, infectious disease became a problem. After infectious disease was no longer an issue, people began to actually live long enough for their bodies to get old and start breaking down. Which brings us to cancer. So, now that we can live long enough that cancer is an issue, we've turned our considerable energies on fixing it. Do you really need desperately to live until you are 180 years old? If so, relax. If not... better go make yourself a foil hat to protect your brain from power lines.

Too Many Old Memories Can Make It Hard To Make New Memories: Scientific American Podcast April 6, 2007 -- Too Many Old Memories Can It Hard To Make New Memories I often picture my brain as a dysfunctional office where the neurosecretaries are not exactly shining beacons of efficiency. There’s papers strewn all over the place, files heaped in teetering stacks, and no one ever sorts through the stuff…there’s so much useless information I can never find what I’m looking for. Turns out that picture might not be so farfetched. It’s been known for awhile that, in mice, storing memories long-term involves making new neurons: destroy an animal’s ability to sprout new brain cells and you mess with its recollections from the past. So the key to remembering may be: forgetting.

The Start to Finish Guide to a Perfect, Stress-Free Vacation Several years ago, I picked up a Rick Steves Convertible Carry-on bag. It has no internal structure, thus making easy to compact so it fits easier in overhead compartments (including some of the smaller turbo-prop planes). It also has hidden backpack straps, so you can wear it on your back while carrying your smaller backpack on those flights where they're checking carry-on luggage to see who to ask to gate check. If you know you'll have to check it, it has a zipper allowing you to expand it to fit more stuff (like when you buy too many souvenirs). I also recommend checking Costco's travel site for renting cars. For longer trips, especially out of the country, schedule a laundry day somewhere in the middle.
