Art, Creativity, & Kids: 20+ Resources Posted by Shelly Terrell on Wednesday, November 10th 2010 Part of the Cool Sites series Many schools have cut out the Arts from the curriculum due to budget cuts and the emphasis on raising standardized test scores. Art is important in our lives. Maybe we do not have an Arts curriculum in our schools, but we can and should incorporate the Arts in our lessons. These are my favorites free tools and resources to get students creating! Challenge: Integrate art in at least one lesson this semester. Free Hi-Res Old Book Textures – part 1 Who says we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover? Apparently they know nothing about design and textures ;). I have collected a bunch of these vintage books from library sales with the intent on making some textures. So this texture pack (part 1) includes high resolution scanned images (3000-5000px) of old fashioned book covers (cross hatched cloth and paper), stained pages and library date cards with stamped due dates from 60s and 70s. peter blaskovic | escape motions SimpleDiagrams FREE CLIPART - Hand drawn by a professional artist - for kids and teachers, from pppst.com A little about Phillip Martin Phillip has braved earthquakes and typhoons in the Philippines, survived malaria five times in Africa, faced a voodoo priestess in Haiti, and lived to tell about multiple bus, truck, and motorcycle accidents. It is Phillip's goal to visit every country on the planet; he's been to over 90 countries already! As a full time artist, Phillip draws cartoons for websites, paints murals in far off corners of the globe to brighten the lives of children, and does free lance work when it comes his way. He's won many contests and received many awards including a recent one where his art will be displayed in the James Thurber exhibit. He's a busy guy, but he always saves time to create new art and new presentations in PowerPoint format to freely share with teachers and kids around the world. When he's not traveling, Phillip makes his home in Ohio in the USA. A wonderful use of Phillip's art Google did a video about Phillip! A sharing note: My husband Don is a survivalist.
8 Free Tools to Visualize Information on Twitter There’s a lot of noise on Twitter. People use a variety of ways to filter through that noise, from following specific lists, finding like-minded people through third party sites, or using a variety of services and websites to find the information that matters to them on Twitter. Another interesting way to filter through what is being said on Twitter, and better yet, analyse it, is to visualize it. Portwiture Portwiture is definitely one of the more unique visual Twitter apps that you’ll find. Portwiture matches the content of your tweets to photographs that have been uploaded to Flickr. Cloud.li Cloud.li is a Twitter search engine which delivers results as a tag cloud. Realtime results are constantly updated, with words associated with your search term, as well as Twitter usernames that are associated with the search term. Tori’s Eye Tori’s Eye is another unique experiment in visualizing Twitter search results. TweetStats Trendistic TwitterMap 5K Twitter Browser TwitterSheep
