One Block Off the Grid: The Smart New Way to Go Solar

posted by Dave Llorens on September 8th, 2010 It Sounds Crazy, But It’s True Here at One Block Off the Grid, we’re constantly striving to demonstrate not only how much money solar can save, but also make for households, so we decided to conduct a little experiment: let’s say you, the homeowner, had $20,000 to invest today. Method: to approximate the rates of return from going solar, we had you, our homeowner, invest your electricity savings in a bank account with 4 percent interest. The Bank If you put the initial savings into an account with 4 percent interest then in 18 years you have $40,516, or $20,516 more than what you started with. San Francisco Once you deduct the California rebate and the federal tax credit, $20,000 buys you a 6kw system in SF through 1BOG (all of these scenarios use 1BOG’s group discount), with a monthly electric bill of $147. Long Island New Jersey New Jersey homes with solar generate SRECs, which can be sold to utilities for lots of cash. By Dave Llorens

Deadly Leopard Seal Tries to Feed Live Penguins to Photographer (Video) "Bloody Hell! That's the biggest leopard seal I've ever seen!" Leopard seals are pretty scary predators, especially if you're a penguin. But they can be friendly to other leopard seals, which is something that photographer Paul Nicklen learned during one of his trips to Antarctica. He was taking underwater photos when a leopard seal started feeding him penguins, starting with live ones, which were released close to him (to see if he would catch them), and ending with half-chewed dead ones. One theory is that the leopard seal saw his reflection in the lens of the camera and thought that Nicklen was a fellow predator, but an awkward one in need of some help. The Seal Saw Him as a Useless Predator Here's is a video of Nicklen explaining what happened, with many incredible photos. For more photos by Paul Nicklen, check out his website. Japanese breakthrough will make wind power cheaper than nuclear NOTE: Some major wind projects like the proposed TWE Carbon Valley project in Wyoming are already pricing in significantly lower than coal power -- $80 per MWh for wind versus $90 per MWh for coal -- and that is without government subsidies using today's wind turbine technology. The International Clean Energy Analysis (ICEA) gateway estimates that the U.S. possesses 2.2 million km2 of high wind potential (Class 3-7 winds) — about 850,000 square miles of land that could yield high levels of wind energy. This makes the U.S. something of a Saudi Arabia for wind energy, ranked third in the world for total wind energy potential. The United States uses about 26.6 billion MWh's, so at the above rate we could satisfy a full one-third of our total annual energy needs. Now what if a breakthrough came along that potentially tripled the energy output of those turbines? Well, such a breakthrough has been made, and it's called the "wind lens." Erogenous zone Primary and specific erogenous zones of men and women Erogenous zones are located all over the human body, but the sensitivity of each varies, and depends on concentrations of nerve endings that can provide pleasurable sensations when stimulated. The touching of another person's erogenous zone is regarded as an act of physical intimacy. Erogenous zones may be classified by the type of sexual response that they generate. Classification[edit] Erogenous zones are either nonspecific or specific. Nonspecific zones[edit] In these zones, the skin is similar to normal-haired skin and has the normal high density of nerves and hair follicles. Specific zones[edit] Specific zones are associated with sexual response, and include the lips and nipples in addition to areas of the genitals, notably the foreskin and corona of the glans penis, clitoris and rest of the vulva, and perianal skin.[1] The neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of erogenous zones is partly unknown. It's definitely one of my must have summer staples. If it's hot, you're low on cash, and want to have a lot of fun, this is the answer! It makes just shy of 5 gallons, so it can serve a TON of people. Each drink packs a heavy whallop to your head, so you really don't need much per person. servings5 Gallons Ingredients 24 Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer1/2 Gallon Premium Vodka4 Cans Pink Lemonade ConcentrateIce Preparation You want to start with a CLEAN 5 gallon bucket. You basically just mix all the ingredients together, but the best way to do this is by mixing the frozen pink lemonade concentrate with the vodka first. Note: If you want the lemonade to be extra sweet, add a fifth can of concentrate to the mix. Then pour in all the beer. The main point in using Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) is not because it's cheap, (although that is always a good thing in my book!) Toss some ice in a glass and drink responsibly! We all learn in grade school that the planets move at differing rates around the sun. Why the huge differences in periods?
