35+ Camping Tips, Tricks & Treats
Summer holidays are just around the corner and if you have a camping trip or two on your agenda, you might just find a new trick or two in this bunch! I’ve put together a list of projects and ideas to help around the campsite, a list of must-have home remedies (for poison ivy, mosquito bites, etc.), plus a bunch of fun ideas for cooking you might want to try this year…and don’t miss the old-timer’s fishing weather poem and dependable rope knot examples at the bottom of the page. Lots here and I’ll be adding more goodies to this page as I find them so you may want to bookmark it for future reference. Enjoy! To start things off, here’s a recipe for removing mildew from tents: Step 1: Mix 1/2 cup of Lysol in 1 gallon of hot water. Step 2: Mix 1 cup salt and 1 cup concentrated lemon juice in 1 gallon of hot water. Although visible stains won’t be removed, it does kill the mildew. General Maintenance Suggestion: Remember, after use your tent should be thoroughly aired-out before being stored.

DIY: Cotton Ball Fire Starters - Pinching Your PenniesPinching Your Pennies Living in a house of all boys, summer weekends easily turn into family campouts. Dirt, bugs and smelling like campfire aren’t my favorite aspects of camping but I do love spending time with my kiddos and the beauty of the great outdoors. Then only thing that makes these trips better is when I find a practical use for everyday house hold items that make my camping trips a little bit easier. Camp fire starters can be handy when your trying to get a fire up and going for four anxious boys. These cotton ball fire starters are easy to prepare before a camp out and just as easy to pack. After they are ready simply toss them in a plastic bag and pack them with your camping supplies.

How to be a good camping neighbor - Being a good camping neighbor helps make everyone's stay more enjoyable. To do this one needs common sense and consideration for your fellow campers, campsite and natural environment. However, some etiquette related to camping is more specific. If you are traveling with children, make sure they know some of these rules. How to Shower Without Electricity My partner Andy and I recently made the move to living off grid after selling our conventional town house in March 2013. This is something we have wanted to do for several years; we were trying to live a low impact lifestyle whilst connected to mains water, gas and electricity and finding ourselves paying much more money in standing charges than we were paying for the actual amount of energy and water we used. One thing we couldn’t find a way of doing better while we had our house was getting clean because our house was a mid terrace with nowhere private outside that could easily be used as an outdoor bathroom so we relied on the electric shower and the occasional bath (with water heated by a gas combi-boiler). Although it was really convenient to just turn on a tap or pull a cord, we much prefer the arrangement we have now for showering, the bucket shower, which we find much more wholesome and enjoyable! White House Farm Camp Site - Tariff Our main field has 15 pitches, 12 of which have electric hook-up. Adjacent to this field can be found a toilet, shower facility, and a well equipped utility room. Our current prices per night are as follows: Beginners Guide to Solar This is a simple introduction to help you decide what you need and how to do it. Firstly there are two different types of set-ups Off Grid and On Grid. If you live remotely and want your own independent power source then you want an Off Grid set-up. If you have a house and are connected to the mains electricity grid then you probably want to use an On Grid set-up, unless you want to use solar to become independent from the grid and have your own power. As the majority of our customers are off grid we will start with that. Off grid set-ups allow you to live remotely whether it’s in a van, boat, or remote house you can generate your own power and live independently.

How to Build Your Own Altoids Tin Survival Kit The Altoids Tin kit is a DIY classic. I'm almost nostlagic for the early days of the make/hack/indie craft blogosphere, where it seemed like every week, there was a new project and collection of stuff you can smush into one of these ubiquitous containers. But, throwback-ish or not, it's also a darn good project, and something to consider keeping anywhere you might need it: your daily go bag, your glove compartment, your camping gear, etc. Wes Siler of Gizmodo says, Tiny, light and infinitely transportable, this affordable little kit might save your life in an emergency.

How To Make Your Own Natural Non-Toxic Deodorant Deodorant is an essential ingredient to combat body odour. We all love to smell nice, and perhaps more importantly, we know the social consequences if we don’t. The problem is that most deodorants don’t really do a good job of helping us out. I found out the hard way. About a year ago I moved further away from the city center of Amsterdam. It now takes me between 30 and 45 minutes on bike just to meet up with friends. The Ultimate Ireland Packing List - Infinite Ireland When going to Ireland for the first time, I wasn’t exactly sure what to pack. The Many Amazing Uses of a Pressure Cooker as a Tool for Preppers My wife has two of the all American Pressure Canners a 10-quart model 910 and the 30-quart model 930. She loves them and has found many different uses for them; they are not just for canning. While we have ran across people with the misconception that they are just for canning, they will do anything a pressure cooker will do.
