California Institute of Technology Classical Archaeology Classics and Classical Archaeology The University of Chicago provides excellent resources for graduate students interested in the material and visual cultures of the ancient world. People Two members of the classics faculty have expertise and research interests in Classical Archaeol/ogy: Imperial College London Department of Classics Classics and Ancient History Through the Departments of Classics and History, the University of Chicago offers graduate students the opportunity to study the history of the Mediterranean and the Near East from the Bronze Age down to the Byzantine era. While students are expected to familiarize themselves with the important political developments that occurred in the ancient world, the study of ancient history at the University of Chicago is particularly distinctive for its emphasis on social, economic, and cultural approaches to antiquity. The Classics faculty's recognized strengths in this area are further complemented by the expertise of a large number of affiliated faculty from the Departments of History, Anthropology, Art History, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and the Divinity School.

Anthropology University Anthropology is the comparative study of humanity that focuses on people in all places throughout history. You will study beliefs, values and practices of various cultures and will compare similarities and differences among diverse groups. By analyzing other cultures, you will learn more about your own. Research plays an important role in the study of anthropology. Along with research inside the classroom, you can participate in DePaul's summer archaeological field school that will give you hands-on experience. Our faculty is made up of scholars who have research expertise in the geographic areas of Europe, the Middle East, Pacific Islands, Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S.
