Encaustic Artist : Jeff League Mixed Media Fine Art Photography The (Literal) ‘Street Art’ of Pedestrian Crosswalks Literal Street Art Transforms Pedestrian Crosswalks Article by Urbanist, filed under Street Art & Graffiti in the Art category. There is a lot of commercial emphasis on the safety of vehicle designs, but did you know that 25% of auto accidents involve pedestrians? While the purpose of these crossings is to assist people (or in some cases animals) wishing to cross a road, their utilitarianism hasn’t not stopped people from creative experimentation in the form of quite literal pedestrian street art. The most famous of these works come, unsurprisingly, from Peter Gibson, often referred to as Canada’s answer to Britain’s Banksy. While a majority of our efforts towards reducing automotive deaths tend to focus on passenger safety, they overlook the startling fact that about 25% of all automotive-accident victims are pedestrians. Finally, like many other previously ‘underground’ art forms, zebra crossing street art is being used for guerrilla marketing.

Art More than 400 invited guests attended the opening event of The Art Hunter in Sydney on Tuesday night. The Art Hunter launch is a collaboration between The Cool Hunter and Jaguar, and the opening night was also the Australian debut of the spectacular Jaguar C-X17 concept car. To present The Art Hunter, we engaged our dream team of collaborators, led by the incomparable Natalie Longeon and Peter Pengly from The Artistry (they designed and executed our Summer Lovers Rotate store as well), to transform a 500 m2 warehouse in Alexandria into a genuinely exciting, temporary three-week art exhibition experience. The Art Hunter is not a white-walled space where you quietly walk past pieces of art. Every one of the seven exhibit spaces has its own unique theme in addition to having its own wall and floor texture and color. The 3D Wallpanels in this space, for example, provide the background for the stunning, exclusive-to-The-Art-Hunter artwork of CJ Hendry in her first-ever public show.

Pedestrian Street Art by Peter Gibson Peter Gibson (aka Roadsworth) began painting the streets of Montreal in the fall of 2001. He was motivated by a desire for more bike paths in the city and a questioning of “car culture” in general. In the fall of 2004, Roadsworth was arrested for his nocturnal activities and charged with 53 counts of mischief. Despite the threat of heavy fines and a criminal record he received a relatively lenient sentence which he attributes in part to the public support he received subsequent to his arrest.Since that time, Roadsworth has received various commissions for his work and continues to be active in both visual art and music. Edit: the above artwork is by Banksy, also a great artist.
