Have A Nice Book Lamps Made from Sawmill Waste and Tree Branches Embedded with Resin and LEDs For his Brecce collection, Italian designer Marco Stefanelli devised an ingenious way of removing fragments from sawmill scraps, tree branches, and cement fragments, and replacing them with perfectly sculpted resin embedded with LEDs. The resulting lamps retain the organic nature of their original form yet cast a beautifully subdued light. You can see much more on Stefanelli’s blog. (via the awesomer) SHOWS THAT MATTER: Chinese Artist Song Dong's History of "Doing Nothing" at Pace WHAT: Song Dong: “Doing Nothing” WHEN: January 18 — February 23, 2013 WHERE: Pace Gallery, 510 & 534 West 25th Street, New York WHY THIS SHOW MATTERS: Bringing together almost 20 years of work by Song Dong, “Doing Nothing” offers a glimpse at the complexity and recent evolution of one of China’s foremost Conceptual artists. The exhibition at Pace’s 534 West 25th Street location is a small-scale retrospective of sorts, with videos and photographs documenting site-specific installations and performances, ranging from “Breathing,” for which Song used only his breath to create a patch of ice on Tiananmen Square, to “Facing the Wall,” a performance in which Song travelled to India and imitated the life of a Zen monk, sitting still and facing a wall for 10 days. Song’s more recent pieces embrace ambiguity, perhaps even striving for it as a means to force his audience to acknowledge and confront their potential biases in interpreting his work.

Maria Laet: Pela superfície | This is Now Maria Laet, Notas sobre o limite do mar, 2011 (vídeo still). Selfish Awareness Tours - Amira Seneque A four day group project, run by Nelly Ben Hayoun (a designer of experiences) - with the theme "Forbidden Tourism". We imagined a dystopic future where the selfie-image sharing of social network has gotten out of hand. A future where we compulsively share online, and have all evolved into narcissistic self-obsessed beings. We thus designed a touristic experience that would allow users to tour the city of London with their own reflection, embracing their selfish nature, and without the emotional damage of over-sharing. The tourists wear different kinds of mirror apparatuses and accessories that allow them to see themselves with the monuments. Explanatory Video Tour Guide Map - Explanations of the Apparatuses

Michel Batlle 2001

Submerged Turntables — Evan Holm There will be a time when all tracings of human culture will dissolve back into the soil under the slow crush of the unfolding universe. The pool, black and depthless, represents loss, represents mystery and represents the collective subconscious of the human race. By placing these records underneath the dark and obscure surface of the pool, I am enacting a small moment of remorse towards this loss.
