EdgeRank: The Secret Sauce That Makes Facebook's News Feed Tick
Yesterday at its f8 developer conference, Facebook engineers Ruchi Sanghvi and Ari Steinberg gave what may be the first thorough walkthrough of the underpinnings of Facebook News Feed, the all-important page that users see when they first log on to the site. After giving an overview of the history of News Feed, which has evolved quite a bit since it launched in 2006, they offered some insight into the algorithms that allow News Feed to show you relevant content, collectively called EdgeRank. You may not realize it, but News Feed only displays a subset of the stories generated by your friends — if it displayed everything, there’s a good chance you’d be overwhelmed. Developers are always trying to make sure their sites and apps are publishing stories that make the cut, which has led to the concept of “News Feed Optimization”, and their success is dictated by EdgeRank. At a high level, the EdgeRank formula is fairly straightforward.

The Complete Facebook Success Formula Every Marketer Should Know At the f8 Developer Conference in April 2010, two Facebook engineers shared Facebook's EdgeRank formula, and since then most marketers have misinterpreted how to apply it to their own brand challenges. Simply put, this is Facebook's equation, not your brand's. This formula reveals how Facebook determines what will appear in users' newsfeeds, but it does not tell your brand what is needed to drive business success on Facebook. What Facebook shared about EdgeRank is important for marketers to understand, but it is merely a portion of the Facebook brand success formula. It is a little like the owner's manual for your car, which is helpful for learning how to operate the vehicle but does not tell you how to successfully, safely and efficiently get from point A to point B. What is EdgeRank? EdgeRank is Facebook's secret sauce. You are probably aware that when you sign on to Facebook, your newsfeed is not simply a stream of every friend's and brand's posts in reverse chronological order.

6 Tips to Increase Your Facebook EdgeRank and Exposure Ever wonder why you can have 548 friends on Facebook, yet only 15-20 show up in your news feed? It’s not that those other friends have stopped using Facebook; chances are they’re still there. It’s just that they aren’t showing up in your news feed. If you haven’t noticed, there are now two settings on your Facebook news feed: “Most Recent,” which shows most of the content published by your Facebook friends in chronological order and “Top News,” which filters content based on EdgeRank. Friends and fan pages with a high EdgeRank are more likely to show in your “Top News” stream. Users with a low EdgeRank may not even show in your “Most Recent” news feed. For businesses or others looking to market, promote or just interact through Facebook, the implications of this change are huge. EdgeRank Defined Facebook looks at everything published as “objects.” Let’s take a closer look at the three factors that determine EdgeRank. Affinity Level of Interaction Timeliness #2: Create a Forum #4: Share Links

How Brands Are Using Facebook Apps for Contests and Campaigns Background: Some time back I published a research paper about how brands are using Facebook apps for enhancing their CRM. In this post I would like to focus on the second value proposition that Facebook apps bring to brands – an amazing opportunity to run campaigns. I have been increasingly seeing brands using Facebook apps to give a boost to their marketing. In fact if you see the list of Facebook preferred developer consultants, you will see some very interesting case studies of brands using Facebook apps. Therefore, in this post, I will talk about why and how brands are using Facebook apps for their contests and campaigns Just as a reminder, in this post I am only focusing and benchmarking Facebook apps that have been used as marketing centric campaigns. Why brands are using Facebook apps for campaigns: Why brands prefer Facebook for marketing campaigns is definitely a million dollar question. Putting campaign where the crowd is – this is the most obvious reason. Connect: Authored by:

Revo Uninstaller - Free software downloads and software reviews Pros I have been meaning to install Revo for ages to clean out some junk on my PC but never got around to it. Well today I really needed it after I couldn't get rid of a program with just my PCs' uninstall application, and it worked just they way I thought it would. No surprises, no whistles and bells, it just got rid of the garbage program. I used the secure download and it didn't add any bundleware as far as I can see (and if it did, I'll use Revo to remove it) and it was super-easy to use. Cons It doesn't seem that it can be used to get rid of browsers like the Homepage-Web browser hijacker that sneaked its way on to my PC. Reply to this review Read reply (1) Was this review helpful?
