Work upon the text of this volume was begun the first day of January, 1926, and has continued almost uninterruptedly for over two years. I make no claim for either the infallibility or the originality of any statement herein contained. Having no particular ism of my own to promulgate, I have not attempted to twist the original writings to substantiate preconceived notions, nor have I distorted doctrines in any effort to reconcile the irreconcilable differences present in the various systems of religio-philosophic thought. Perhaps science someday will take the time to investigate in these uncharted areas and experiment on a far broader base than has been the case so far. The following is a condensed tabulation of herbs listed according to the planetary influence which affects each of them, as claimed by ancient tradition. In concluding this condensed table of herbs and corresponding Planetary influences, it will be interesting to add a few further observations. Is there anyone capable of answering why the chickweed flowers are open and upright from nine in the morning until noon? There is no point in going any further into this matter here as sufficient material can be found in the following pages to help in the assimilation of the spiritual essence for further transmutation. Psychic and Spiritual Alchemy There have always been two conceptions of alchemy: As a materialistic transformation of baser metals into gold or silver The spiritual transformation of the human person into a higher state of being Some alchemists claimed that alchemy was the inner teaching within Christianity; that the manufacture of the philosopher's stone (lapis) was equivalent to the Christ-experience, the new birth. Likely, some of these were actual teachers within the Perennial Tradition, using the symbolism of alchemy to explain--or cover--their activities. The church issued several encyclicals and papal bulls against alchemy, but a number of church leaders as well as scientists and philosophers defended the art. This essay presents exercises 1 in realizing 2 the Higher Consciousness and overcoming our bewitchment by the bodily senses. As the chart below indicates, the Higher Consciousness is the active principle within the spiritual level of being.
