Paperscape About Paperscape Paperscape is an interactive map that visualises the arXiv, an open, online repository for scientific research papers. Each paper is represented by a circle, with the size of a circle related to how often that paper has been cited (referred to) - a measure of its impact. The papers are clustered together according to how they reference each other i.e. share information. This is done by modeling the papers as particles in a physical system, with references acting as attractive forces between papers - read more. Created by Damien George and Rob Knegjens.

The Color Strata – Color Names, Common And Less So, Compared I’m an incorrigible data hound. So, once the tempting aroma of XKCD’s color name survey results tickled my nose, I had no choice – but to run to the dining room, stand up on my hind legs, and yank that statistical top sirloin off the table. Om nom nom yum yum yum! For those unfamiliar, XKCD is the popular webcomic, and on its sister blog, author Randall Munroe announced his survey as follows: I’d like your help for a color name survey! The survey shows you colors, and you type a name (word or phrase) you might use for that color.

Color Psychology by David Johnson Like death and taxes, there is no escaping color. It is ubiquitous. Beyond Pink and Blue: A Look at Gender Colors It goes beyond culture. There is science behind the gender-relationships when it comes to colors. A study by John Hallock compares the color preferences among various demographics and takes into account information collected from 22 countries. HSL Color Picker - by Brandon Mathis HSL (Hue, Saturation, Luminosity) allows us to describe meaningful relationships between colors. Give this brown color, hsl(36, 73%, 10%), it's clear that if we desaturate 40 steps and lighten 70 steps we get hsl(36, 33%, 80%), a cream color. Look at that in hex, #2C1D07 to #DDCFBB, or in rgb, rgb(44, 29, 7) to rgb(221, 207, 187), and the relationship between colors isn't evident in any meaningful way. In graphics software I pick colors in HSB (Hue, Saturation, Brightness) because it feels more natural to work with than RGB or CMYK.

OWL - Semantic Web Standards Overview The W3C Web Ontology Language (OWL) is a Semantic Web language designed to represent rich and complex knowledge about things, groups of things, and relations between things. OWL is a computational logic-based language such that knowledge expressed in OWL can be exploited by computer programs, e.g., to verify the consistency of that knowledge or to make implicit knowledge explicit. OWL documents, known as ontologies, can be published in the World Wide Web and may refer to or be referred from other OWL ontologies.
