Sprite Database - http://spritedatabase.net
Hello, readers, and welcome to the new-for-2014 SDB. That's right, once again a new year has brought with it a new site design, and many new features along with it. For example: First off, the customs section. Customs now have ICONS! This feature took far longer to get done than I'd like to admit, especially since once I sat down and got to work on it, it wasn't hard at all.

Where to find game assets Everyday we bump into people who want to make a game, they get in touch with us and ask us where to start. Well, guys, you came to the right place: HTML5 is the perfect technology to start making games because it’s extremely flexible and very easy to use! For this reason we are going to publish some blog posts focused exclusively on the game development process, perfect resources for newbies but also good tips for expert developers. In the last two weeks we blogged about the 2D & 3D frameworks that can be used to start coding a game (some of them *points at Construct* do not require ANY coding skills at all!)

Return of the SpriteBatch: sorting part 3 - Shawn Hargreaves Blog SpriteSortMode.Texture sorts sprites by texture. SpriteSortMode.BackToFront and SpriteSortMode.FrontToBack do the obvious thing. But what is the difference between the Immediate and Deferred sorting modes, and why should you care? These modes both draw sprites in the same order that you call Draw, without any sorting.

It is intended for use in video games, and the design was somewhat inspired by Quake 3's file subsystem. Data/Compression Format? - gemot encubed Hello all, I actually did some freelance work on such files previously, specifically on DO's Kazoku Keikaku kizunabako. I got the okay, from the one I did it for, to publish details about the script internals, since it won't really hinder the translation project (anyone interested in translating into French?). Unfortunately, I do not know much details about the ggp* graphics details, so I won't be able to help on interface TL issues.

Programming M.C. Kids This article was written by myself and Dan Chang back in 1992 for the Journal of Computer Game Design sometime after we finished making M.C. Kids for the NES. Some of it may be still be useful, especially if you are just learning programming and want to do a side scrolling game. Some of the issues solved here are less relevant today.
